WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 24-30, 2022.
 
Women’s Basketball – Player
Bushnell University’s Morgan McKinney was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this year.
 
McKinney, a guard/forward from Lake Oswego, Ore., lifted Bushnell to only its second-ever road sweep of Eastern Oregon University and College of Idaho. The senior helped the Beacons knock off the CCC-leading Mounties with 19 points (7-for-12), seven rebounds, and four assists. McKinney averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and shot 44.8-percent on the week.
 
Men’s Basketball – Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Phillip Malatare was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Malatare, a junior guard from Arlee, Mont., was a key player in the Mounties’ 2-1 week. He nailed the game-winning shot in overtime over then No. 13 College of Idaho to lift EOU to a 94-91 victory and finished the week averaging 21.0 points per game on 52.3-percent shooting. Malatare went 15-for-18 at the free throw line and had 12 assists, three steals and two blocks over the three games.
 
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 6-ranked Menlo College’s Barbara Greenberg was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Greenberg, a 109-pound junior from Los Angeles, came up with an early upset victory against Valeree Orenlas to set the tone for the Oaks in a 25-15 dual victory over No. 3-ranked Southern Oregon University, avenging this season's earlier loss to the Raiders. She won the decision 5-4 on riding time to help the Oaks improve to 6-2 on the year.
 
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
University of Providence’s Payton Hume was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Hume, a 174-pound sophomore from Kalispell, Mont., recorded two pins en route to winning the 174 lb. weight class at the Tyler Plummer Classic in Dickinson, N.D. He posted his first fall in two minutes, 34 seconds and won the title with a pin in 2:24. Hume also had a 7-4 decision victory on the day.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
College of Idaho’s Abbey Shirts was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Shirts, a junior from Weiser, Idaho, hit the NAIA "A" standard in the mile while racing at 4,500-feet in Pocatello at the Stacy Dragila Open. She finished sixth out of 31 total athletes, crossing the finish line in 5:09.40.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Catylynn Duff was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Duff, a senior from Culver, Ore., broke the Coyote school record and improved her NAIA leading mark in the weight throw at the Stacy Dragila Open. She took second out of 29 athletes with a heave of 17.90m (58-8 ½).
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
College of Idaho’s Logan Hunt was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Hunt, a sophomore from Athol, Idaho, hit the NAIA "A" standard in the 3000m, racing at 4,500-feet at the Stacy Dragila Open. He finished 12th out of 38 runners with a time of 8:44.59.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Bryan Terry was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Terry, a senior from Winnemucca, Nev., hit the NAIA "B" standard mark in the weight throw at the Stacy Dragila Open. He posted a 16.89m throw for third place out of 19 athletes.
 
Baseball – Pitcher
Lewis-Clark State College’s Eric Chavarria was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Chavarria, a senior pitcher from Long Beach, Calif., earned his first win of the season in a 5-4 victory over No. 16 Hope International. He tossed a solid seven innings and fanned six. He allowed one earned run and walked only one before handing the game over to the bullpen.
 
Baseball – Player
Oregon Tech’s Kaleb Keelean was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
 
Keelean, a senior outfielder from Daly City, Calif., helped the Owls start the year 3-1. He went 7-for-12 at the plate to open the year batting .583 with nine RBIs, nine runs, and five walks. Keelean knocked three home runs to boast a 1.500 slugging percentage and was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts.
