WPU Announces Athletics Pause

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In response to an increase in cases of the Omnicron variant in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest and out of an abundance of caution, Warner Pacific University announced Wednesday its Portland campus will begin classes next week online for an initial three-week period. In addition, all athletic practices and competitions have been placed on a 14-day pause, effective immediately.

Per the CCC’s COVID-19 guidelines, if at any time a school elects not to participate in a contest that has not been required to cease based on a Federal, State or County mandate, it will be considered a forfeit for record and standings purposes.

All WPU athletic programs are halting team activities until Jan. 19, at which time the university administration will re-evaluate the decision.

The Knights men's and women's basketball teams were scheduled to play Eastern Oregon University Friday and the College of Idaho on Saturday. The Knights were also scheduled to host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University Jan. 14-15.

WPU’s wrestling team was set to begin the CCC season at EOU on Jan. 12 and at SOU on Jan. 14, along with a competition at Pacific University on Jan. 16.
