CORVALLIS, Ore. – In one of the closest preseason polls in conference history, Menlo College was picked as the slight preseason favorite on the 2022-23 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Wrestling Preseason Poll, released Thursday by the conference.
The Oaks sit in the top spot of the poll with 32 total points after securing three first-place votes. Menlo comes off a solid year, winning the second-ever CCC Women’s Wrestling Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, and taking third as a team at the NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Invitational Championship.
Just one point behind Menlo is Southern Oregon University, which also garnered three first-place votes to tally 31 total points. The Raiders led seven CCC teams at last year’s national invitational with a second-place finish.
The University of Providence rounds out the top three with 22 total points, followed closely by Eastern Oregon University in fourth with 21 points. Vanguard University – in its first season of competition – picked up 12 points to sit in fifth and Simpson University rounded out the poll with eight points for sixth.
This past spring,
the NAIA and its National Administrative Council (NAC) voted to approve women’s wrestling as the association’s 28th national championship. The inaugural national championship is set for March 10-11, 2023, in Jamestown, N.D.
The 2023 CCC Women’s Wrestling Championship is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2023, in La Grande, Ore., hosted by EOU.
