ROSEVILLE, CA
This weekend, the Roebbelen Center hosted 20 women's wrestling teams in the Women's Wrestling West Coast Tournament of Champions. The Oaks, as usual, were show-stoppers. They won their first dual, against Umpqua Community College, by a final score of 35-16. They followed that victory with a win over Snow College, by a mark of 33-13.
Today, in the tournament portion of the event, Menlo took 1st place. The Oaks had individual champions in 6 weight classes: Kayla Mckinley-Johnson was victorious in 101, Barbara Greenberg in 109, Ajayzee Zaballos in 116, Alana Vivas in 123, Louisa Schwab in 136, and Shannon Workinger in 155.
Menlo individuals also took 2nd place in 6 weight classes: Tianna Fernandez in 101, Haley Narahara in 123, Stephanie Chavez in 136, Desiree Jones in 143, Nikita Dhaliwal in 170, and Neila Fritts in 191.
In the most recent NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll, Menlo came in at number 8 in the country. Given the Oaks' comprehensive performance at this weekend's tournament, their profile on the national stage may be set to grow even further.
