GREAT FALLS, Mont. –
RESULTS | No. 3-ranked Menlo College won the second-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Wrestling Championship, presented by U.S. Bank.
After the CCC championship took a year hiatus last year due to the pandemic, the Oaks defended their 2020 crown with 157.5 team points, edging out No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon, which finished second with 148 points. No. 10-ranked University of Providence took third with 111.5 points, while No. 18-ranked Eastern Oregon University grabbed fourth with 106 points. Corban University rounded out the Top 5, finishing with 34 points for fifth, while Simpson University scored 18 points and Life Pacific University finished with 7.5.
On top of winning the conference championship, Menlo head coach Joey Bareng was awarded the Coach of the Year. University of Providence wrestler and 101-pound conference champion Ira Navarro was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Simpson took home the team sportsmanship award.
Menlo saw four individual champions crowned, followed by three from EOU and two from SOU.
At 101 pounds, Ira Navarro (UP) pinned Emma Baertlein (SOU) in the final to win the championship.
In the 109-pound class, Macie Stewart (SOU) won the title match over Barbara Greenberg (Menlo), winning via technical fall 14-3.
At 116 pounds, Alledia Martinez (Menlo) claimed a 10-0 technical fall over Tara Orthman (SOU) to win the championship.
Macy Higa (EOU) claimed the title honors in the 123-pound class with a 11-0 win over Carolina Moreno (SOU).
At 130 pounds, Nanea Estrella (Menlo) defeated Kaylee Moore (EOU) 10-0 to take home the championship.
In the 136-pound title match, Gracie Figueroa (Menlo) posted an 11-0 victory over Paige Respicio (UP).
Morgan Shines (EOU) earned the 143-pound title over Ramona Jimenez (SOU) with a 12-0 win.
Sienna Ramirez (SOU) claimed the 155-pount title by pinning Alia Abushi (Menlo).
At 170 pounds, Olivia Robinson (EOU) defeated Dennis Bailey (SOU) 7-1 to win the championship.
Emily Sandoval (Menlo) pinned Karrah Smith (SOU) in the 191-pound championship match.
