CALDWELL, Idaho – Mountaineers Baseball suffered a tough setback Sunday afternoon as they fell to rival College of Idaho in a doubleheader by scores of 9-6 and 6-3. Eastern Oregon moves to 6-14 on the year after dropping the series, 3-1, against the Yotes.
Game 1 – College of Idaho 9, Eastern Oregon 6
How it Happened
• Plaguing the Mounties in the loss was six errors on the day. The Yotes (12-11) did not fare much better, committing five in the contest.
• Both teams racked up double figure hits in the contest with C of I having the slight edge at 11-10. EOU did leave 10 runners stranded in the game, while C of I had eight left on base.
• The Yotes threatened in the first frame, getting runners on the corners with two outs. Starter Benjamin Bergonzine escaped the jam with a flyout to keep both stranded.
• Eastern got a hit in the bottom of the first on a two-out double from Matt Garcia, but he was left stranded. In the second inning, C of I ended the scoreless bout.
• A one-out single to right center allowed the first run to score for the Yotes. They then hit a deep single to right field to go up 2-0. The lead grew to 3-0 for C of I on an RBI sacrifice fly to right.
• The Mountaineers managed to stop the bleeding and held the score to 3-0. A fielding error by EOU ultimately allowed the Yotes to score a pair of unearned runs.
• Eastern looked to respond in the bottom of the second. They got two runners on and had a chance to score but a fielder's choice to home plate kept the Mounties off the board.
• The lead grew to 4-0 for C of I in the third as an RBI sacrifice fly scored a run. In the bottom half of the frame, EOU answered with a Hector Carreon two-run homer to right field to make it 4-2.
• The Yotes got a run back in the top of the fourth thanks to a pair of errors by EOU. The first error got the leadoff batter on and three batters later another error allowed the run to score.
• The EOU bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth, allowing the team to score three runs. The Mounties got their three runs in with the help of three hits and a pair of Yotes errors.
• Ethan Snodgrass plated the first run home with a double, scoring Carsten Manderbach. Adrian Roa then scored pinch runner Rogelio Gonzales on the next at bat with a single up the middle.
• The Mounties three straight hits allowed them to make it a 5-4 game. A fielder's choice and an error allowed McKlane Elgin to get on. He advanced on a groundout and scored on a second error by the Yotes.
• The score remained tied at 5-5 until the top of the seventh as a wild pitch and a pair of Eastern errors gave the Yotes the lead back. A wild pitch scored the first run, while a base hit and two errors in one instance scored the second run.
• The score grew to 9-5 for the Yotes in the top of the eighth. A one-out single got a runner on and two batters later a stand-up triple made it 8-5.
• Another wild pitch by EOU pushed the next run in to give the Yotes the four-run edge after the top of the eighth. The Mounties final run came in the bottom of the eighth on a Yotes error.
• The Yotes error allowed Rogelio Gonzales to score from second. The Mounties threatened in the eighth and ninth but ultimately fell short of the comeback.

• Hector Carreon went 2-5 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored, and a home run.
• Carsten Manderbach also went 2-5 and scored a run.
• Ethan Snodgrass tallied two hits in five at bats with one RBI.
• Bennett King (1-1) pitched 3.1 innings in relief and had two strikeouts.
For the Yotes
• Jonah Hultberg batted 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
• Ben Dudley also went 3-5 with a run scored in the win.
• Kirby Robertson was 2-5 in the contest and scored a pair of runs.
• Ben Hansen hit 2-4 at the plate with one RBI and scored two runs.
• Colby Durski (2-1) pitched two innings of relief in the win and had a pair of strikeouts.
• Erik Wisenor picked up his second save in as many days and fanned two batters.
Game 2 – College of Idaho 6, Eastern Oregon 3
How it Happened
• The finale went to the Yotes as they racked up 15 hits and did not have an error. Defensively, they held the Mounties to just four hits, while EOU had four errors in the loss.
• C of I grabbed the early lead scoring two runs in the first inning. A leadoff home run made it 1-0 before back-to-back singles and an EOU error made it 2-0.
• The score remained at 2-0 over the next three innings. The Yotes worked a 1-2-3 outing in the second, third and fourth innings before scoring again in the fifth.
• C of I pushed the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth with the help of a hit and another EOU error. The leadoff man got on a hit and made it to third on the error. Another single scored the run to put the Yotes up three.
• Eastern ended its scoring drought in the bottom of the sixth on the efforts of Matt Garcia. He hit a triple to right center for the RBI and scored Adrian Roa to make it 3-1.
• On the next at bat, Carsten Manderbach singled to score Roa to make it a 3-2 game entering the seventh. C of I immediately got a run back with a leadoff triple and an RBI single to lead 4-2.
• The Yotes added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. They got leadoff hit and a stolen base before a single to left plated the run in to make it a 5-2 game.
• Eastern looked to battle back in the bottom of the eighth but managed just one run. Elliott Marks drove in Manderbach, who was originally walked, on a two-out single to make it 5-3 heading in the ninth.
• The Yotes added their final run in the top of the ninth. They scored on a wild pitch to go ahead 6-3 and then worked a 1-2-3 frame to close out the game.

• Carsten Manderbach batted 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Matt Garcia went 1-3, tallying one RBI and scored a run.
• Elliott Marks was 1-3 in the loss with an RBI and drew a walk
• Michael Bennett (1-3) pitched six complete frames and had seven strikeouts.
For the Yotes
• Jonah Hultberg went a perfect 4-4 with a home run and tallied one RBI to go along with three runs scored.
• Ben Dudley batted 3-4 and had one RBI in the win.
• Skyler Sadora was 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Starter Andrew Vaughn (1-1) pitched 5.1 innings in the win and had a game best nine strikeouts.
• Erik Wisenor picked up his sixth save in 1.1 innings of relief. He struck out three batters.
