LC State Relays Shine at Whitworth Twilight

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Warriors saw five records fall and three provisional standards hit at the Whitworth Twilight on Thursday. A pair of LC relays highlighted the day, with the women’s 4x100m and men’s 4x800m teams setting school records and qualifying for nationals.

LC State student-athletes braved the cold and rainy conditions throughout the day in Spokane.

“Pretty excited about our performances this evening, despite the cold that tends to hamper us,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “I am really excited about the relays that qualified today with B standards. It really shows that our program is starting to get a little but deeper when it comes to having the quality of athletes that can put those types of performances together.

“A couple other things I want to point out are London (Kirk) getting really close to the national standard in the 400m, and Clayton (VanDyke) who led off the 4x800m and came back and won the 1,500m. He ran the open 400m and improved his personal-best in that. He was also on a 4x400m team. Jennah (Carpenter) also PRd in the long jump after being part of the 4x100m, so a lot of good things today.”

THE WOMEN
The women’s 4x100m relay team had a successful day with a school record and national-qualifying time of 48.25 to take second in the event. Ashley Britt led off the race, with Lewiston natives Anika Grogan, Jennah Carpenter and Madigan Kelly taking the other three legs.
