SOU stellar again on Day 2 of Raider Invitational

COMPLETE MEET RESULTS

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's Adam O'Brien clinched an automatic spot in the NAIA Outdoor Championships and Lindsey Bonney stole the show in the sprints during Day 2 of the Raider Invitational on Saturday at Raider Stadium.

O'Brien, a two-time All-American in the pole vault, hit the NAIA 'A' standard on the nose by clearing 15 feet 9 inches. His winning mark in the 12-person event was his best since clearing 16-0 ¾ to place seventh at last spring's national meet. Teammate Cody Le Bel cleared 14-11, putting him in a tie for 19th place on the NAIA performance list.

Bonney, a senior from Grants Pass, recorded season-bests in both of her sprints. She won the 100 meters in 12.20 seconds, the third-fastest time in the Cascade Conference this season, and the 200 in 25.10, the CCC's second-best time.

Two Raiders joined O'Brien as event winners on the men's side: Cade O'Connor in the 400 (50.29) and Matthew O'Henley in the hammer (173-2). Three Raiders clocked season-bests in the 100 – Blake Morgan (11.04), Shane McLaughlin (11.06) and Dimitri Williams (11.17) – to place third, fourth and fifth, and McLaughlin was the runner-up in the 200 with a PR (22.23). Jonathan Ashford added a season-best in the shot put (46-4 ¼) to place second, while AJ Sandvig was a runner-up in the 800 (1:54.63) and Jacob Williams placed second in the high jump (5-11 ¼).

On the women's side, Bonney joined Aayzia Dumas, Camille Lawrence and McKenna Wilson to post another 'A' in the 4x100 at 47.69, two weeks after they clocked the NAIA's eighth-best time in 47.30. Lawrence also won the 400 in 58.38, and Dumas followed her with a season-best 58.73. In the 800, Sarah Mauk's time of 2:22.84 made her the runner-up.

Abi Stevens – who stands on the NAIA performance list at No. 1 in the high jump and No. 4 in the heptathlon – turned in PRs in the long jump (17-9) and 100 hurdles (15.03), winning the former event and placing second in the latter.

In the field, KiAshe Hobby won the hammer with another 'B' mark (160-6) and placed second in the shot put (39-0 ½). Molly Guerra's runner-up mark in the hammer of 155-7 was a PR.
