Track and Field Closes Out Weekend in Nampa with Strong Marks

NAMPA, Idaho – LC State Track and Field has shined this outdoor season, and competition Saturday at the NNU Invite and Multi was no different. Local products continued to lead the charge, with Jennah Carpenter (Lewiston) earning a second-place finish in the heptathlon, and Madigan Kelly (Lewiston), Anika Grogan (Lewiston) and London Kirk (Deary) setting records.  
 
“Today was a pretty good day for the Warriors,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Conditions were really good for sprinters and they took advantage of it. We had some outstanding sprints today. All in all, a great day. I am excited about where we are at coming out of spring break, and looking forward to a couple more meets in Spokane.”
 
THE WOMEN
Freshman standout Kelly won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.33, breaking her own program record. The time improved her automatic national-qualifying standard time and ranks fifth in the NAIA as of today. Ashley Britt placed third in the event (15.26) and Keelyn Pilcher finished fifth (16.42).
 
Grogan won the 200m dash with a school record and national-qualifying time of 24.88. She also earned the victory in the 100m dash with a time of 12.19 (wind-aided).
 
Britt won in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.1 with a B standard time, which she accomplished earlier this season at a slightly faster time. Kelly finished fourth (1:06.62) and Pilcher placed sixth (1:08.21).
 
Carpenter finished second in heptathlon with a score of 4,152, reaching a national-qualifying standard with the second-highest point total in program history. Makayla McIntosh finished fifth in the multi event with a score of 3,298.
 
Cynthia Smith finished third in pole vault 3.45m, and Desiree Winslow finished sixth (2.85m).
 
Junior Brooklyn Shell finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 5:07.08. Shell also had ninth-place finish in the 800m (2:30.78).
 
Sydnie Zywina finished second in triple jump with her leap of 10.66m, and Alexa Horsley placed fourth (10.23m).
 
Madison Howe placed third in the 5,000m with her time of 20:31.16.
 
THE MEN
Cole Olsen won the 5,000m with a national-qualifying time of 14:48.20 to lead a strong pack of Warriors in the event. Chase Borrow finished runner-up (15:17.59), followed by Brycen Kempton in third (15:40.03) and Brady Nelsen in fourth (15:59.14).
 
Freshman Kirk finished runner-up in the 100m dash with a school record time of 10.88. He also finished second in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 21.77.
 
Clayton VanDyke won the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.41, and freshman Griffen Parsells finished seventh in the event with a time of 4:08.79.
 
Ike Hopper claimed the victory in the 400m hurdles with a personal-record time of 45.67 and had a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.65.
 
The Warriors had four athletes in the top 10 of the 800m. VanDyke took another victory home with a win in the event and a time of 1:54.15. Carter Gordon finished fifth (1:59.11), Conner May placed sixth (1:59.46) and Parsells followed in seventh (1:59.61).
 
The 4x100m relay team of Nikolous Bertling, Kirk, Jaxson Blaker and Tucker Cone won the event with a time of 44.18. Bertling finished second in pole vault with his mark of 4.60m.
 
Ian Gardom finished fifth in long jump with a jump of 6.08m. Gardom also reached a third-place finish in high jump 1.80m.
 
Warrior Track and Field is back on April 8-9 at the Whitworth Peace meet in Spokane.
