CORVALLIS, Ore. – After dominating the 2022 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, UBC was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for May 9-15, the CCC announced Sunday.
The Thunderbirds reclaimed the title after winning it in 2019 in their return to the CCC meet – UBC had to sit out the 2021 championship due to border issues with the pandemic and there was no meet held in 2020. The T-birds racked up 222 total team points – 74 points over second place Southern Oregon University – after winning 10 events.
UBC also earned two top individual honors with Coach of the Year Laurier Primeau and Track Athlete of the Meet Katherine Lucas. Lucas, a senior sprinter, matched her own meet record in the 100 meters (11.78 seconds), broke a 10-year-old meet record in the 200 (24.28) and got another win in the 400 (55.94) to sweep the sprints. She also ran the first leg for the UBC 4x400 team, which broke the meet record by nearly two seconds in 3:47.37, and was part of a second-place 4x100 team.
The T-birds also saw wins in the triple jump (Allison Macdonald), pole vault (Sage Stoyka Kay), 3K steeplechase (Jenna Melanson), long jump (Emma Rastad), 1500m (Katie Newlove), and 100m hurdles (Hassy Fashina-Bombata).
