NAIA Track and Field Championships Day 1 Highlights

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Day one of the 2022 NAIA Men’s and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship ended earlier than expected due to weather but saw a new record set.

Women's Results
Valerie Schmidt of Corban (Ore.) is only 126 points removed from the top spot with second-place finishes in 100m hurdles, shot put and 200m. She also placed seventh in high jump.

There were four different trial events that happened before the weather interfered and cause the event to finish for the day. Day two is set to open at 10:30 a.m. with the continuation of the heptathlon events long jump, javelin and 800m. The updated schedule can be found HERE

Men's Results
Rowan Hamilton of British Columbia set a new record in the hammer with a throw of 74.21 (243-5) on his final attempt of the day and separated himself from the field by being nearly 10 meters from the runner-up. The mark was 3.75 difference from the previous record set at 70.46 in 1992. Rowan previously won the hammer title in 2019 with a mark of 63.5.

Reinhardt (Ga.) and British Columbia sit at the top of the team standings with 10 points. Southeastern (Fla.) and Oregon Tech follow with eight points.

Day two is set to open at 10 a.m. with the continuation of the decathlon events 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1500m. The 10,000m race was delayed to Thursday at 10:15 p.m. due to weather. For full schedule with updates CLICK HERE
