GULF SHORES, Ala. – The second day of the 2022 NAIA Men's and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship opened with some heavy rain but all events for the day were completed.
Women's Results
Javelin Champion: Hailey Kjaer, British Columbia, 47.65 (156-4) – Hailey Kjaer of British Columbia won the javelin title with a mark of 47.65 (156-4) on her third throw. Kjaer has won the 5th javelin title for UBC and is the second UBC athlete to win a title as Liz Gleadle won all four years of her college career.
5k Race Walk Champion: Olivia Lundman, British Columbia, 23:41.20 – Olivia Lundman of British Columbia claimed the 5k race walk title with a time of 23:41.20. Lundman finished a total of 1:1.24 ahead of the runner-up.
Heptathlon Champion: Valerie Schmidt, Corban (Ore.), 5,158 – Valerie Schmidt of Corban (Ore.) overtook Lauren Tamayo of Hastings (Neb.) on day two of competition in the heptathlon. Schmidt finished with a total of 5,158 points – breaking the CCC record set almost 30 years ago in 1995 – after taking second in the javelin and 800m and followed with a fifth-place finish in the long jump on day two.
UBC holds a hefty lead in the team standings with 60 points. The championship will continue on Friday, May 27 with the half marathon starting at 6 a.m. CT.
Men's Results
10K Champion: Robert Swoboda, Corban (Ore.), 30:19.80 – Robert Swoboda, Corban (Ore.) finished in first place with a time of 30:19.80.
UBC leads in the team standings with 22 total points. Hastings (Neb.) follows closely behind with a total of 16 points. The championship will continue on Friday, May 27 with the half marathon starting at 6 a.m. CT.
