CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 11 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Sept. 5-11, 2022.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Northwest University’s Claire Jo Diede was named the rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Diede, a senior midfielder from Everett, Wash., scored both goals in the Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Vanguard University. She took four shots in the game, putting two on frame.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Northwest University’s Hanne Breur was named the rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.
Breur, a freshman goalkeeper from deBilt, Netherlands, picked up her fourth shutout of the season over the weekend against Vanguard. She made six saves to keep the clean sheet and has only allowed one goal through five games so far this year.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Warner Pacific University’s Andrew Martinez was named the rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Martinez, a freshman forward from Gresham, Ore., scored six goals and had two assists in three victories for the Knights. He scored two game winners and had a total of 21 shots on goal.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Warner Pacific University’s Alexis Calderilla was named the rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Calderilla, a senior goalkeeper from Wenatchee, Wash., posted three shutouts on the week. He made four saves total to help the Knights go undefeated in three games.
Volleyball – Attacker
The Evergreen State College’s Lily Steward was named the rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Stewart, a senior opposite hitter from Toppenish, Wash., averaged 3.42 kills per set as the Geoducks went 2-1, last week. She had 14 kills in back-to-back matches against Oregon Tech and No. 22-ranked Southern Oregon University. Stewert also had a .366 hitting percentage and was also a force on the frontline with 1.17 blocks per set, including five blocks each against SOU and OIT.
Volleyball – Defender
(RV) Bushnell University’s Callie Wilkins was named the rize Laboratory Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Wilkins, a senior libero from Happy Valley, Ore., dominated as the Beacons swept their weekend double-header with Warner Pacific University and Multnomah University. She had the second-highest dig total for a three-set match in school history and the most in seven years.
Volleyball – Setter
The Evergreen State College’s Sierra Wolff was named the rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week for the second week in a row.
Wolff, a fifth-year senior setter from Caldwell, Idaho, averaged 8.83 assists per set as the Geoducks went 2-1, last week. She had 39 assists in the four-set loss to SOU and 30 against Northwest and 37 against OIT. Wolff also had two service aces and averaged 0.58 blocks per set on the week.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 16-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Kayla Clayton was named the rize Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Clayton, a senior from Salinas, Calif., started 2022 on a high note with her second career race victory. She was six seconds ahead of the field in 19:13.7 at the CCC Preview Meet, helping the Raiders win the event as a team.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 13-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Justin Ash was named the rize Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Ash, a sophomore from Baker City, Ore., led wire-to-wire and cleared the 43-person field by nearly 20 seconds in completing the 8,000-meter race at Clover Road Field in 25:30.2. He helped the Mounties dominate the team competition as well as EOU put five runners in the top six.
Women’s Golf – Golfer
No. 23-ranked Oregon Tech’s Payton Canon was named the rize Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Canon, a senior from Greenwood Village, Colo., netted her fifth career medalist honor after rolling to the individual title at the Coastal Collegiate Classic at Salishan Golf Club. She blitzed the field by 10 strokes (74-80-79 – 233), helping the Lady Owls (334-350-331 – 1015) to a second-place team finish behind Lewis-Clark State.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
Bushnell University’s Caden Stubbs was named the rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Stubbs, a senior from Eugene, Ore., tied for first place at the Coastal Collegiate Classic, hosted by Corban University at Salishan Golf Links. Stubbs shot a three-round 73-73-74—220, building a five-stroke lead over the first two rounds and holding on for his first career victory.
