CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the fourth time this season, Southern Oregon University women’s wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Feb. 20-26, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The No. 3-ranked Raiders took home the third-ever CCC women’s wrestling championship today. They finished a full 10 points ahead of runner-up Menlo College with 158 points. Southern Oregon had four wrestlers take home championship titles.
In the 109-weight class, Natalie Reyna-Rodriguez won by medical forfeit over teammate Macie Stewart. At 123 pounds, Carolina Moreno was victorious in a 3-0 decision. No. 2-ranked Emily Se went 2-0 with a tech fall and a pin in the 143-weight class and was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament. At 170 pounds, Joye Levendusky won by pin.
Along with the winners, Esthela Trevino, Macie Stewart, Bella Amaro, Karrah Smith, and Grace Kristoff received all-conference honorees by placing in the top three in their respective weight classes. In her first season, SOU Coach Gabrielle Weyhrich won coach of the year. The Raider's next conquest is the National tournament in Jamestown, North Dakota, on March 11-12. Currently, 12 Southern wrestlers have automatically qualified for nationals, but the official number will be announced on Tuesday at NAIA.org.
