NEWBERG/PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams sent split squads to the Portland Indoor Meet #2 and George Fox Indoor Meet today, where the Warriors saw their throwing and jumping units compete for the first time this season at George Fox, while the sprinters and distance runners logged valuable races up in Portland.

“Another successful day for the Navy and Gold tracksters,” Warriors’ Head Coach Todd Bos shared. “We continue to see improvements in all areas as a team thanks to the focused works by both the athletes and coaches.”

George Fox Indoor Meet #1 (Throws/Jumps)

Corban freshman pole vaulter Leah Nastri finished 7th overall in a pool of 11 student-athletes, clearing 2.75 meters to set her personal record (PR) in her first indoor track and field meet.

Junior throwers Will Cordero and Matthew Araki placed 11th and 13th men’s shot put, respectively, in a field of completely NCAA student-athletes aside from the two Corban upperclassmen. To cap off the meet, sophomore Will Maupin finished in a four-way tie for 10th place in the Men’s High Jump, clearing 1.72 meters in his first appearance of the short season.

Portland Indoor Meet #2 (Sprints/Distance)

Junior sprinter Hero Peters broke the 28 second mark in the 200 meter race for the first time this season, logging a 27.57 to finish 10th overall and finish higher than any other NAIA student-athlete in the event. Corban sent two more runners to the starting marks in the event as well, with junior Jenna Miller (29.04) and freshman Madelyn Straus (31.02) placing 16th and 25th, respectively.

The Men’s 200 meter run was next on deck, as Corban submitted a trio of runners to compete in the race. Freshman Josiah del Prado improved upon his PR from the opening weekend meet with a 24.09 to finish 13th overall, while fellow freshmen Alek Richter and Evan Olson earned 19th and 21st in the event.

The lengths doubled in the next event, as the Women’s and Men’s 400m races featured six Corban sprinters. Junior Juliana Brown and sophomore Kristi Hirte finished within 0.21 seconds of each other, placing 17th and 19th in a 27-athlete field, with Hirte shaving three entire seconds off her personal record for the race. The meet jumped to the long distance races from there, as sophomore Judah Koehler and senior Lindsay Janzer took to the 3,000 meter race for the first time this season to log 16th and 22nd overall placements. Koehler was the first NAIA student-athlete to finish, with a time of 11:33.73.
