CORVALLIS, Ore. – The seeds for the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, were finalized Sunday.
The four-team, three-day, double-elimination tournament will be held May 6-8 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Find more information on the
Tournament Page.
Oregon Tech was named the No. 1 seed of the Cascade Conference baseball tournament today. They finished with an overall record of 31-17 and tied in conference at 16-8 with co-champions (RV) University of British Columbia.
The Owls and T-Birds split in their head-to-head matchup, resulting in the second guideline tiebreaker for post-seeding purposes to be used. The next determination involves records against teams in descending order. Against third seed College of Idaho, OIT had a better league record than UBC. As a result, the Owls are seeded No. 1 and will host the tournament. Oregon Tech will head into postseason at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday against No. 4 seed No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State College with Brendan Talonen, the leading pitcher in the conference with a 3.18 ERA.
As the No. 2 seed, (RV) University of British Columbia finished overall with a 31-19 record. The T-Birds hold the second-best team pitching in the conference and have Sean Heppner who leads the CCC in strikeouts. They will open the Tournament at 11 a.m. on Saturday against No. 3 seed College of Idaho (31-16, 15-9 CCC) who holds the highest team batting average in the conference.
For the first time since 2011, No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State College has not won the regular season title. They held on as the No. 4 seed, sitting at 29-14 overall with a 14-10 conference record. The Warriors still lead the conference in team pitching and fielding.
