T&F Continues to Prepare for Approaching Conference Championships at Local Meet

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Corban University track & field teams traveled across the river to McMinnville to compete at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Invite hosted by Linfield University at Maxwell Field and Memorial Stadium. the Warrios faced legitimate competition and proved themselves to be contenders for a place on the podium at the approaching Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championship.

Head coach Todd Bos said, "There was good improvement and progress at the Linfield meet today. The team will have a week off from competition except for the distance crew, who will be in action at Lewis and Clark next Saturday. We are excited about the upcoming meets and seeing our marks continue to improve." 

 

The Corban women's throwers continue to have impressive showings with Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues taking fifth in discus with a season best throw of 116'4". Jaelene Diaz-Chavez set a personal record today, placing ninth. Her throw of 111'0", is enough for No. 8 all-time in Corban's record books and is a conference qualifying mark. Meanwhile Madilyn Kleiber placed 11th (105'10").

 

The trio also had strong showings in the shot put with Tata-Rodrigues tossing a season best 34'8.5", placing seventh. Klieber was right behind her in eigth-place with a new personal record of 34'6.25". Chavez, (16th, 30'3.75") and Leah Twede (18th, 29'1.25") also competed in the shot put. 

 

The women's hammer throw saw Chavez stay consistent with a seventh-place finish (131'10"). Corban also placed 16th and 17th behind throws from Kleiber (107'1") and a personal record from Twede (105'6"). 

 

In the javelin, Keelyn O'Reilly tossed 113'3" for a third-place finish and a conference qualifying mark.

 

Madelynn Straus tied her personal record in the high jump enough for a seventh-place finish (4'6.25") while in the pole vault, Leah Nastri placed 10th (8'0.5"). 

 

On the track, Hero Peters battled through the windy conditions and was consistent in the 100-meter dash placing fifth with a time of 13:03.

 

In the 400-meter hurdles, Kristi Hirte finished in eighth-place with a personal record of 1:12.53.

 

The men's side also saw success as Matthew Araki tossed a season best of 104'11", placing 17th in the discus. Araki also competed in the hammer throw, placing sixth (136'11") while William Cordero threw for a new personal record and placed 17th (110'3"), enough for No. 9 all-time for Corban. The junior tossed a personal record (41'8.75") in the shot put earning him a sixth-place finish and putting him at No. 7 all-time for the Navy and Gold. Cordero saw CCC qualifying marks in both the shot put and the hammer throw. 

Evan Olson continues to throw the javelin well placing third behind his throw of 182'8". Jacob Moore also had success placing 10th (148'7"). Will Maupin and Carter Knox participated in the long jump with Maupin making his way to a personal record at 20'5.75" placing 13th (No.7 all-time, CCC qualifier). Maupin also tied his personal record with a leap of 5'8.5", taking sixth in the high jump. 

 

On the track for the men, DJ Armstead ran a new personal record in the 200-meter (23.97). 

 
In the men's 4x100-meter relay, Corban had two groups race placing seventh (44.34) and eighth (44.99) in the race. Josiah del Prado, Armstead, Caleb Schmoll and Moore compiled the first group with Alek Richter, Noah Miller, Shane Davis, and Maupin making up the second group. 
 

To round out the meet, Corban's men's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Schmoll, del Prado, Davis, and Moore finished second with a time of 3:25.69. 

 

After multiple season bests and personal records set today, the Corban track and field team will look to the distance runners to continue to build on this momentum on April 15 before the while team competes at the Raider Invitational on April 21-22 hosted by Southern Oregon University.
