EOU Jumps Out to Big Day One Lead at CCC Championships

LA GRANDE, Ore. | RESULTS – The defending CCC champions secured a big lead on day one of the Cascade Conference Men’s Track and Field Championships presented by U.S. Bank. Two CCC Championship records were broken, the 4 x 100-meter relay (Multnomah) and the 110-meter hurdles (Lane Maher, CofI).

EOU has positioned themselves to repeat as conference champions after day one with 120 points and nine top-three finishes. LCSC currently sits 50 points behind in second with 70 points. Rounding out the top three is the College of Idaho with 57 team points.

Below is a chronological recap of Friday’s events:


STEEPLECHASE: The University of British Columbia controlled the steeplechase with two of the top three finishers. The nation’s top steeplechase competitor took care of business, UBC’s Dylan Uhrich finished with an “A” Standard time of 9:10.99 to take the top spot on the podium. Uhrich narrowly missed a CCC Championship record but did set a new Banner Bank Track facility record. EOU’s Justin Ash also posted an “A” Standard time of 9:23.01 finishing in second place. UBC claimed the third-place spot as well thanks to Aiden Miller’s performance finishing in 9:27.84.

HAMMER: UBC continued their hot start, also taking the top spot in the hammer throw. Matthew Uliana took a comfortable win with a mark of 59.66 meters, an “A” Standard mark. Southern Oregon’s Wayne Garcia notched a “B” Standard with a throw of 55.38 meters. His teammate Matthew O’Henley finished third with a mark of 51.50 meters.

4x100-METER RELAY: Multnomah set a CCC Championship record winning the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.03 seconds. The team of Daniel Dixon, Donte Sol, Roderick Soto, and Freider Fornasari-Banguera posted yet another “A” Standard time on the year. LCSC was hot on their heels with a time of 41.37 seconds which was also good for an “A” Standard. In third place was Eastern Oregon University with a time of 41.96 seconds.

LONG JUMP: EOU’s Alex Kosel claimed his third straight CCC Championship in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.00 meters. Mountie teammate DJ Wilson took the second spot on the podium with a jump of 6.95 meters. Rounding out the top three was Bushnell University’s Hunter Reininger with a jump of 6.89 meters.

1,500 METERS: Lewis-Clark State College took the win in the 1,500 thanks to Griffen Parsells who finished with a time of 3:54.28 which was good for an NAIA “B” Standard. Second place was split by a hair as College of Idaho’s Daniel Butler finished in second with a time of 3:55.003 and EOU’s Hunter Nichols finished in 3:55.009.

110-METER HURDLES: Another record fell in the 110-meter hurdles thanks to College of Idaho’s Lane Maher. The sophomore set a CCC Championship record breaking his own record from a year ago with an “A” Standard time of 14.38 seconds. In second was EOU’s Israel Miles who posted an NAIA “B” Standard time of 14.79 seconds. In third was EOU’s Mason Nichols with a time of 15.03 seconds.

SHOT PUT: EOU’s Tanner Nett made school history in the shot put breaking EOU’s oldest program record with a hurl of 16.91 meters (“A” Standard). In second place with a “B” Standard, SOU’s Luke King recorded a 15.76-meter throw. SOU also claimed the third-place spot as Tre Holmes put up a throw of 15.11 meters.

400 METERS: Only one mark met “A” Standard requirements in the men’s 400. LCSC’s sophomore, London Kirk, paced the field winning with a time of 47.97 seconds, tying his season best. Multnomah’s Roderick Soto finished in second with a time of 48.74 seconds. Wrapping up the top three, EOU’s James Connally earned the final spot on the podium with a time of 49.13 seconds.

HIGH JUMP: Only one competitor cleared two meters in the high jump and that was Multnomah’s Victor Dailey who was crowned the CCC Champion in the high jump after he cleared 2.05 meters (“B” Standard). EOU’s Tyler Jones finished second clearing 1.99 meters and LCSC’s Justin Krabbenhoft finished third at 1.96 meters.

10,000 METERS: Oregon Tech’s only first-place finisher of the day came in the final event when Nick McMillen battled to a win in the 10,000-meter race. The senior posted a NAIA “B” Standard time of 31:21.66. The Yotes took the next two spots with Hayden Bostrom finishing second and Elias Everist finishing third.
