CCC Announces U.S. Bank Scholar-Athletes of the Year

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Cambree Scott-Shields was named the 2022-23 Cascade Collegiate Conference U.S. Bank Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Corban University’s Quinn McCallion was named the U.S. Bank Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.

The CCC’s top academic honor comes after the conference’s athletic directors voted on a ballot of nominees.

Scott-Shields, from Bend, Ore., helped the Mountaineers to both a regular season and tournament championship while holding a 3.9 GPA in her Master’s of Art in Teaching program. This year Cambree was also awarded CCC All-Academic, Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, and NAIA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year as selected by the College Sports Communicators. Along with her academic success, Scott was just as dominant on the court, achieving First-Team All-Conference, NAIA First-Team All-American, and NAIA All-Tournament Team.

"I am so incredibly proud of what she has accomplished as a Mountie for the last five years both in the classroom and on the court. To be recognized for this award shows how tirelessly she has worked in all aspects of being a student-athlete. She has blessed this program with grit, relentlessness, fire, and one of the kindest hearts I have ever seen and for that we are forever grateful that she is, was, and always will be a mountaineer.” – Kaki McLean Morehead (Head EOU Volleyball Coach).

Other Female Nominees: Bushnell University’s Aspen Slifka, Corban University’s Gemma LaVergne, College of Idaho’s Ellyse Tingelstad, Lewis-Clark State College’s Channa Hart, Menlo College’s Louisa Schwab, Multnomah University’s DeAsia Wosachlo, Northwest University’s Kelsey Moore, Oregon Tech’s Olivia Sprague, Southern Oregon University’s Sydnee Kizziar, and Warner Pacific University’s Brin Wolvert

McCallion, from Wallingford, United Kingdom, finished his first year of the Master’s in Christian Leadership program with a perfect 4.0 GPA. His hard work led to CCC Academic All-Conference honors, NAIA Scholar-Athlete prowess, CSC Academic All-District, and First Team Academic All-American awards. On the field, the goalkeeper was the CCC Defensive Player of the Year with a 0.42 goals against average (GAA) and grabbed five CCC Defensive Player of the Week awards, leading to an NAIA Third Team All-American status.

"Quinn is the perfect example of what it means to be a student-athlete at Corban. His strengths in his academics and athletics are never outshined by his relationship with Christ and his ability to lead alongside his squad as a team player. Goalkeepers are the workhorses of any successful soccer team, and Quinn did exactly that in his graduate season as a Warrior. We couldn't be more excited for Quinn to receive this recognition; it is extremely well deserved." – Bill Pilgeram (Corban AD)
