LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon University Indoor Track and Field returned to action for the first time in the new year on Friday. Day one of the Lauren McCluskey invite had several notable performances for the Mounties including a standout performances in the multis by
Elizabeth Grandle and
TJ Davis. In singular events
Kenna Woodward and
Justin Ash earned "B" Standards in the weight throw and 3,000-meter run respectively.
The two-day meet will conclude tomorrow in the Kibbie Dome Indoor Track at the University of Idaho.
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES:
PENTATHLON:
Eastern Oregon University's
Elizabeth Grandle picked up where she left off in the Pentathlon at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open and Multi, finishing an impressive fourth overall, trailing only three NCAA Division I competitors. Grandle tallied 3,333 points, securing her fourth place and a personal best score.
Her standout performances included a second-place finish in the high jump, where she cleared 5'5". Additionally, Grandle clinched a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 35'9.5". Notably, her high jump mark marked a new personal best, solidifying her as the third all-time in the pentathlon at EOU with her total score.
WEIGHT THROW:
Kenna Woodward made her mark in the Weight Throw, earning a "B" Standard with a throw of 16.20 meters. Despite facing tough competition from NCAA Division I participants, Woodward secured a commendable fourth place in the event behind three NCAA Division I competitors.
MEN'S PERFORMANCES:
HEPTATHLON:
TJ Davis made a triumphant return to form in the Heptathlon during his first competition of 2024. After four events, Davis sits in second place overall. The Sandpoint, Idaho native showcased his versatility with three top-3 finishes, securing second place in the high jump (6' 2.75") and shot put (44' 10.25"). Davis also claimed the third position in the 60-meter dash, setting a new personal record with a time of 7.16. His time ranks him 7th all-time in EOU track and field history in the 60-meter dash.
The Heptathlon will conclude tomorrow, featuring the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
3,000 METER RUN:
Justin Ash delivered a standout performance in the 3,000 Meter Run, earning a "B" Standard with a time of 8:35:00. Ash not only set a personal record in the event but also broke into the top 10 in the EOU record book, securing the 8th all-time position. Despite facing tough competition, Ash finished fourth, trailing only three NCAA Division I competitors.
