Warriors Secure Numerous Top Ten Placements at Second George Fox Indoor Meet

NEWBERG, Ore. – Twelve different student-athletes of the Corban University Men and Women Track & Field teams made the short trip north to compete in the second indoor meet of the season to be hosted by NCAA DIII George Fox University, where the Warriors saw six top ten finishes and three new personal records set in the penultimate regular season appearance for the teams in 2024 prior to indoor postseason and outdoor season both starting by the end of February.

"The throwers had a good showing at their meet today," Corban head coach Todd Bos shared earlier today. "Will set an all-time best in the shot and Leah had another PR in the weight throw. Leah jumped well in the pole vault and should be headed to a good outdoor season. Tomorrow, a few distance runners will compete at the UP meet, and in two weeks, we will head to our first indoor national meet with the outdoor season right around the corner. We need to keep working hard and trusting God in the good and/or difficult things that come our way.

Senior William Cordero was one of three Warriors to hit new personal best marks in Newberg, as his 12.93m toss in the men's shot put was good enough for a sixth place overall finish. Fellow senior thrower Matthew Araki was right behind Cordero with a 12.59m launch to finish eighth on his season-best throw, while freshman Aden Dardis finished eleventh with a 10.47m throw.

On the women's side, junior Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues continues to set the standard in the women's weight throw with a second-place finish today, tossing the marker 13.09m and trailed only GFU favorite Kaitlyn Johnson in the event. Meanwhile, sophomore Leah Twede set a new personal record of 12.05m to finish fourth and freshman Malena Robnett concluded the three Warrior finishes in the top ten for the event with a 9.95m attempt.

Robnett was the lone Corban competitor in the women's shot put today, finishing fifth overall as the top NAIA thrower with a 9.66m launch.

Junior Leah Nastri joined Araki in setting new season-best marks today for the Navy and Gold, as she cleared the 2.73m height in the women's pole vault to continue her steady improvements week-after-week. Finally, the last personal record achieved today by a Warrior came from another true freshman, represented by Kirsten Kuenzi's 4.38m long jump mark.

A contingency of Warriors will be in action throughout tomorrow at the Portland Indoor Three meet, hosted by NCAA DI University of Portland at the Chiles Center.
