CORVALLIS, Ore. – Southern Oregon University’s Carolina Moreno was named the 2023-24 Cascade Collegiate Conference Rize Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Year, announced Friday by the conference office.
The junior 130-pound wrestler from Somerton, Ariz., had another outstanding season on the mat, ending with an undefeated 28-0 overall record and was ranked at the top of her weight class all season. Her wins included 10 pins and 14 technical falls. She earned titles at the Missouri Valley Open and the Menlo Open and has won 41 consecutive matches dating back to 2022.
She won her second straight CCC tournament title with two pins and a technical fall at the tournament. This led Moreno to an automatic berth to the NAIA Championship where she did not give up a point all postseason.
At the National Championship she went 5-0 with two pins and three technical falls. In the Championship bout, she faced Sarah Savidge of Life (Ga.) and won by 11-0 decision to claim her third consecutive NAIA title. In three appearances on the national stage, Moreno has gone 15-0.
Moreno is SOU’s first three-time national champion. She also added to her accolades with classroom accomplishments including being named CCC All-Academic Conference and NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete.
Southern Oregon placed 2nd at the CCC Championship and 3rd at the NAIA Championship with seven All-Americans.
