Trio of Warriors Hit National Marks to Open Outdoor Season

RESULTS

SPOKANE, Wash. – Lewis-Clark State Women's Track and Field opened the outdoor season with three national qualifiers to lead the Warriors at the Sam Adams Classic on Saturday. Returning All-Americans Kea Stieglitz (javelin) and Geraldin Correa (800m) punched their ticket, and Madigan Kelly earned her place in the 400m hurdles.

"An average day for us," Head Coach Mike Collins said. "We had three national qualifiers which is great, and I believe 19 conference qualifiers, so that is nice to see. I thought we'd have a few more today, so definitely some work to do but looking forward to going to the University of Oregon meet and competing in the big stadium next week."

THE WOMEN

Two-time All-American Stieglitz hit the A standard in her firs meet of the season with a monster throw of 42.30m. She won the event at the meet.

A standout last season in the 100m edition, Kelly hit the automatic standard in the 400m hurdles with the third-best time in school history. She was second at the meet with a time of 1:03.22.

An All-American twice in the indoor event, Correa is nationals bound in the outdoor 800m after running a provisional time of 2:15.89. She won the event at the Sam Adams Classic. Aubree Williams was 12th (2:21.12), Kristen Thomas placed 23rd (2:29.39) and Grace Tiegs was 24th (2:34.84). Tiegs led the way in the 1,500m in eighth (4:50.36), Williams was ninth (4:51.97), Thomas placed 16th (5:10.77) and Grace McCormick was 19th (5:43.45).

The Warriors throwers had a busy day with both in three events. Haylee Appleford led the duo in the discus where she placed fourth (37.87m) and Grace Osborne was eighth (36.55m). Osborne hit a PR in the shot put to finish 10th (11.03m) and Appleford was 11th (10.95m). Osborne placed 12th in the hammer throw (34.88m) and Appleford was 13th (33.08m).

Emily Collins placed second in the field in the 400m with a time of 58.09. Freshman Macey Gunderson was fifth (1:03.89). Gunderson also placed eighth in the 200m (27.80).

Abigail Gorton was the lone runner in the women's 10,000m. She finished with a personal-best time of 42:49.48. A trio of Warrior women ran in the 3,000m led by Abigail Peightal (11:08.14) in ninth. HaileyAnn Johnson was 11th (12:36.11) and Madison Howe placed 12th (12:46.45). Chloe Overberg ran a time of 19:00.91 to place second in the 5,000m.

Emberlynn Mack placed 18th in the 100m dash (14.52).

THE MEN

Senior Ike Hopper just missed a B standard in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.78 to win the event. Freshman Luke Mastroberardino was sixth (1:01.96). Ian Gardom started his outdoor season with a personal-best time of 15.97 in the 110m hurdles. Mastroberardino was fifth (16.84). Gardom was also fifth in the high jump (1.79m).

Freshman Preston Cooper ran the third-fastest 200m dash by a Warrior to win the event with a time of 22.24. He was also second in the 100m (11.12). James Bogdanowicz was ninth (23.77) in the 200m and fourth in the pole vault (4.03m).

Sam Weller hit a PR in the hammer throw to lead the LC State throwers. He hit a distance of 40.75m to place seventh and Tanner Beltz-Childs was 12th (36.99m). Beltz-Childs was 21st in the discus (27.32m) and Weller was fourth in the shot put (13.98m).

Conner May was the top LC finisher in the 1,500m in 10th place (4:03.28). Brycen Kempton was 14th (4:11.13). May also led the way in the 800m in fifth (2:00.22) and Tristin O'Brien was ninth (2:03.48). Kobe Wessels led the way in the 5,000m in seventh (15:55.80). Kempton was 14th (16:32.78) and Luke Sellmann placed 17th (17:31.16).

Alexander Fry led a group of six Warriors in the 10,000m. He clocked a time of 33:25.39. Connor Alexander was second (33:56.29), Bryden Brown placed third (34:19.48), Clay Shumaker was fourth (34:46.05), Keith Uitdewilligen finished fifth (35:07.76) and Jacob Adams placed sixth (35:19.51).

UP NEXT

A select group of Warrior will compete at the Oregon Preview in Eugene next weekend. The event will take place in Eugene at Hayward Field.
