NEWBERG, Ore. – A large contingency of student-athletes from the Corban University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed today in the Rich Allen Classic, hosted by NCAA DIII George Fox University, where the Warriors saw their first national qualifying standard of the season alongside even more Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) marks that will send members of Warrior Nation to Klamath Falls in May.
"We had a beautiful day for our meet in Newberg," Corban head coach Todd Bos detailed. "Kayla's high jump that tied the school record and hit the NAIA A standard was one of many highlights on the day. Our throwers had another really good day with many PRs. Our sprinters continue to round into form and should be set for a good April when the bulk of our meets occur. We look forward to having the entire team compete at the dual with Willamette this Thursday. The Lord continues to bless and teach this group as we progress through our early outdoor season."

In the exact same event that she qualified in for the indoor national championships, redshirt sophomore Kayla Morgan bested her career-high mark in the women's high jump to win the event today at GFU, as her 1.68m height is the NAIA "A" standard and makes her one of the first to qualify for the 2024 Outdoor National Championships thus far in the nation for the event.
Morgan's qualifying mark to take the women's high jump was the first of four top ten finishes today for the Sisters native, as she placed sixth overall in both the 100m hurdles and long jump, followed by a ninth place finish in the 200m race as she continues to hone her all-around skills as a multi-event athlete. Both her long jump and 100m hurdles marks are conference-qualifying standards as well.
Alongside Morgan on the women's side with new personal records bested today stands freshman Kirsten Kuenzi (100m – 13.18), junior Elizabeth Hernandez (200m – 27.31 & 400m – 1:02.04), and redshirt freshman Patience Haff (400m – 1:04.25) in racing events. In the women's hammer throw, all three Corban student-athletes posted personal bests, led by junior Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues who snagged a third-place finish with a 42.60m heave. Sophomore Lead Twede joined Tata-Rodrigues in meeting the qualifying mark for the end-of-season CCC meet with a throw of 38.51m.
Despite not setting a new personal best, Tata-Rodrigues also hit the minimum requirement to compete in the women's discus in Klamath Falls with a 37.00m throw today, as she looks to improve upon her second place finish last year in the event. Freshman Malena Robnett continues to show improvements in the event as well with a personal best toss of 25.56m today.
Turning the attention to the male Warrior competitors today, sophomore Josiah Del Prado sprinted his way to a 400m race victory among the 20-plus athlete event, which qualifies him for the conference meet as well with a final time of 50.28. Sophomore DJ Armstead shaved off half a second from his 100m season best to qualify for conference at 11.10, while a handful of both throwing and sprinting student-athletes set personal best marks but are still in pursuit of a qualifying mark.
The Warriors will participate in their annual head-to-head dual with crosstown rival and NCAA DIII school Willamette University, with the Bearcats set to host on Thursday, March 21st at McCulloch Stadium.
