Warrior Track and Field Teams Split Head-to-Head Dual Team Results with NCAA Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – In their annual crosstown dual with NCAA DIII Willamette University, the Corban University Men's and Women's Track and Field teams earned a team score split among the two results, with the Warrior women's team nearly edging the Bearcats 60-59 while the men fell 77-46 despite a handful of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships qualifying marks at McCulloch Stadium this afternoon for the Navy and Gold.

"Our athletes performed very well today and you could see the direct results of the consistent work they have been putting in," Corban head coach Todd Bos shared earlier this evening. "Multiple PRs and conference qualifications were achieved today. More importantly, the team did a great job of supporting and encouraging each other. I am very proud of this group. A short hiatus for spring break and then we will get back into the heart of the season."

With the friendly dual taking place over two days, the Warriors kicked off their success with a pair of CCC qualifying marks on their own campus, as senior Matthew Araki (49.27m) and junior Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues (40.61m) both hit the distance needed to win the men's and women's hammer throw against Willamette. Sophomore Leah Twede joined Tata-Rodrigues in qualifying marks with a 36.80m hurl on Wednesday.

Continuing in the throws division, senior Will Cordero was able to win the men's shot put with a 13.56m heave to qualify for the conference championships, while Araki and Tata-Rodrigues repeated as the discus throw victors. The men's javelin was won by Warriors' redshirt sophomore Anthony Salisbury, while junior Keelyn O'Reilly took second on the women's side to clinch a pair of conference qualifiers in the event.

On the track, freshman Kirsten Kuenzi snuck into the minimum qualification time by two-tenths of a second in the women's 100m race at 12.89, while redshirt sophomore Kayla Morgan once again ran a 100m hurdle race that sends her to Klamath Falls in the middle of May. Senior Jacob Moore was the lone men's qualifier to submit a time worthy of the CCC championships, finishing the 400m hurdle race in 1:01.84 to win the event.

For the second consecutive weekend, junior Leah Nastri rose to the occasion and won the women's pole vault with a conference mark of 2.79, while junior Will Maupin hit his first qualification of the year with a 1.78m leap in the men's high jump which also brought him gold this afternoon.
