Corban Men’s Golf Among Crowded Standings After RMC Intercollegiate Opening Day

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Corban University Men’s Golf team kicked off the 2024 spring season today just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Warriors began the first day of the RMC Intercollegiate at the Reflection Bay Golf Club throughout this morning and into the late afternoon.

“We got off to a rough start and never really recovered today,” Corban head coach Charlie Marshall shared. “We really hurt ourselves from staying in contention as we imploded on several holes due to some bad breaks we encountered. I don’t like to blame certain course conditions, but every player would say the greens were very unpredictable throughout the day. Our men handled their own personal adversities with class and know how they can turn things around for their last round.”

The Navy and Gold entered the nine-team tourney with an abundance of talent, as every program in this week’s tournament are either currently receiving or had received votes in the two top 25 coaches’ polls released by the NAIA thus far, with two of them currently ranked within the top five nationally. No. 4-ranked Ottawa University-Arizona (-1) finished day one in first place overall by five strokes, with both No. 3-ranked University of British Columbia Tourney host Rocky Mountain College hot on the Spirit’s tail at +4 apiece.

Corban (629) currently sits in eighth place after holding steady in seventh throughout a majority of the day, but a rough last few holes of play in the opening round followed by an inconsistent second recond resulted in a +59 overall differential among their five student-athletes. Senior Jackson Bragg (+9) was the Warriors’ top performer through the first 36 holes of this week’s tournament, as he’s sitting in a tie for 23rd overall. Sophomores Shane Jacobus (+13) and Max McDonough (+15) follow right behind Bragg in 34th and 36th, respectively.

Bragg and sophomore Brayden Sparkman both had bounce back performances in round two today to keep themselves in contention with the remainder of the field, with Bragg finding an additional stroke between rounds one and two and Sparkman increasing his best round by two strokes.

The Warriors will look to conclude their spring opener tomorrow back at Reflection Bay Golf Club for the final round of the RMC Intercollegiate.
