Desert Heat Leaves Lasting Impression in Warrior Men’s Golf Spring Opener

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Nevada desert was the outright winner in the final day and round of the RMC Intercollegiate, as every team in Henderson hit over par for the day, with very few individuals turning in red numbers during an otherwise exhausting day of collegiate golf for the nine teams in action.

"It was pretty clear by day's end that we were burnt out by the hotter weather than we're used to playing in up in the Pacific Northwest," Warriors' head coach Charlie Marshall began with sharing when asked to detail his program's most recent tourney appearance. "Jackson played very well, but knows he could have been in the top ten at the least with some slight adjustments. We pretty much dealt with great shots ending in bad outcomes all week long. I'm disappointed we didn't come out of the gates on fire when we know we could've finished in at least fifth overall with our capabilities, but nonetheless, I'm proud of these guys for staying composed and displaying Christ-like character throughout the adversity."

It was the national top-five programs who eventually came out on top of the spring opener for most of the teams in attendance this week, as No. 3-ranked University of British Columbia and No. 4-ranked Ottawa University-Arizona both turned in 872 three-round totals to share the tournament crown. UBC overturned a six-stroke deficit heading into the final round to force the draw with OUAZ. Tournament host Rocky Mountain College (875) was three-strokes behind the two nationally ranked programs by the day's end, followed by the RV University of Victoria and The Master's University to round out the top five teams.

After struggling to keep pace with the teams in attendance yesterday during the first two rounds of this week's tourney, the hits kept coming against the Warriors (952) in the desert heat, as senior Jackson Bragg was the lone top 20 finisher for Corban thanks to a +1 finish in the final 18 holes to force a three-way tie for eighteenth overall at +10 over three rounds. Sophomore Shane Jacobus (+25) and junior Max McDonough (+29) finished in 37th and 40th overall, respectively, to close out the top three Navy and Gold golfers in Nevada this week.
