"Our team got off to a nice start on the outdoor season in spite of the cold, wet, and windy weather today," Corban head coach Todd Bos stated. "We had a handful of conference-qualifying marks with many more to come as the weather improves. We are thankful to stay injury free at the meet and look forward to competing at GFU next week."
The lone track student-athlete to earn a qualifying mark at the CCC level today was sophomore DJ Armstead, who sped his way to an eighth-place overall finish in the men's 200m race with a 22.75 final time.
Senior Matthew Araki was leaps and bounds ahead of the qualifying mark in the men's hammer throw, as he topped the 38.95m mark set by the conference with a 45.00m hurl of his own to secure the top NAIA finish in Eugene ahead of conference opponents in Southern Oregon University, Multnomah University, and Bushnell University.
On the women's side, junior Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues matched Araki with a conference qualifying hammer throw toss, as her 41.38m mark placed fifth-overall today in an NCAA heavy field and once again provided the Warriors with the top NAIA mark.
With the pair of Corban women's pole vaulters taking to the runaway and mats for the first time this outdoor season, both junior Leah Nastri and freshman Johnna Waddell reached the height necessary to advance to Klamath Falls in May, as the true freshman hit the mark exactly at 2.48m, while Nastri secured a sixth-place finish with a 2.78m vault.
With even more Navy and Gold student-athletes on the fringe of clinching qualifying marks today, the teams will turn their attention to the Rich Allen Classic next Saturday, hosted by George Fox University in Newberg.
