"Again, we had a really good day in spite of the Pacific Northwest weather," shared Corban head coach Todd Bos this evening. "One more conference qualifier was added from DJ Armstead in the men's 400m, which was encouraging to see. This meet takes a lot of mental toughness, as it's long and we are still recouping from last week's meet. The athletes performed admirably, and I'm excited about where we are as a team heading into the conference meet in two weeks. I know I say it a lot, but it is always true; we are very thankful to God for this group of student-athletes and what we are accomplishing this season.
Among the limited personal and season best marks achieved today from the Navy and Gold was freshman David McCormick, who finished his 110m hurdle race with a 16.95 time, just 0.02 slower than the necessary time he needs to qualify for the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships a few weeks from now.
Meanwhile in the men's javelin, senior Jacob Moore placed seventh in the event out of 21 throwers with a season-best 51.57m, while redshirt freshman Brodin Tuning achieved a new personal record with a 47.30m hurl.
The only two women's competitors to hit new personal best marks today for the Warriors were the long-distance running twins of Shaelee and Shannel Killorn, who ran 2:25.42 and 2:28.03 in the 800m open to finish in 57th and 66th, respectively.
Finally, the Corban men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of sophomore Josiah del Prado, freshman Braydon Lee, Moore, and Armstead, ran the second fastest time among the ten teams on the track today in Corvallis, beating out every NAIA squad and a handful of NCAA DI programs with their 3:25.22 final time.
The Warriors' final opportunities to qualify for the CCC Championships will be next Saturday, May 4th at the Linfield Open in McMinnville, hosted by NCAA DIII Linfield University.
