DALTON, Ga. – The UBC Thunderbirds have climbed one spot to move in to a tie for fourth as they look to defend their national title at the NAIA Men's Golf Championship at Dalton Golf & Country Club.
UBC posted a slightly higher score in their second round of the event, firing a combined 304 (+16) after carding a total of 299 (+11) in Tuesday's opening round.
The T-Birds (+27) are 14 strokes behind new leader Texas Wesleyan (+13) for top spot midway through the event. Dalton State (+17) remains in second after tying Wesleyan in the initial round. Day one leader Keiser University (+21) fell to third, while Columbia College (+27) jumped in to a tie with UBC for fourth, to round out the top five.
Individually, John Paul Kahlert bounced back from the highest opening round score on the team to leading the 'Birds with a 74 (+2) on Wednesday, including chipping in from a greenside bunker on hole 11 for a gorgeous birdie.
Overall, Dylan MacDonald (+6) is the top individual T-Bird at the tournament, sitting in a tie for 23
rd and eight strokes off of the lead. He's followed by Hudson LaFayette (+8) in a tie for 37
th and Mackenzie Bickell (+9) tied for 47
th.
The conclusion of the second round saw half of the 30 teams get cut, with UBC a comfortable 16 strokes clear of the cut line.
A new draw is being done for the slimmed down field, UBC's Thursday morning tee times will be made available
here sometime Wednesday evening.
