CORVALLIS, Ore. – After earning the regular season Cascade Collegiate Conference title last year, Southern Oregon University was picked to remain on top as the conference released the 2024 CCC Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll on Wednesday.
The Raiders tallied eight first-place votes with 216 total points to land first in the preseason ranking. Southern Oregon had a tremendous year, making it to the second round of the NAIA Tournament before falling 2-0 against the 2023 National Champions of MidAmerica Nazarene University. They ended the 2023 campaign ranked No. 20 nationally with a 18-4 overall and 12-1 conference record. The 2023 CCC Defensive Player of the Year, Casey Ruvolo, is returning for the Raiders along with several other top returners and fresh newcomers as SOU prepares to have another dominant year.
Close behind in the poll was the 2023 CCC tournament champions of College of Idaho who received five first-place votes with 182 points. The Yotes are searching for another successful season after finishing in the first round of the NAIA tournament with a close 2-1 loss to Menlo College. C of I ended the year with a 12-4-4 overall and 9-2-2 conference record.
Warner Pacific University got one first-place vote and is ranked No. 3 with 163 points. The Knights received votes in the final NAIA rating and consistently have a competitive program that is currently working towards another redemption season.
Carroll College received No. 4 in the preseason poll with 149 points while Oregon Tech rounded out the top five with 128 points. The Evergreen State College followed with 109 points and Rocky Mountain College landed at No. 7 with 97 points. Northwest University earned the No. 8 rank with 88 points followed right behind Eastern Oregon University who gained 86 points.
Next, University of Providence ranked No. 10 with 71 points. Multnomah held No. 11 totaling 67 points and Corban University was one point behind to secure the No. 12 spot. Bushnell University (49 points) and Walla Walla University (14 points) complete the poll in the No. 13 and No. 14 positions, respectively.
The CCC season kicks off in just over a month on Sept. 20, with the conference tournament set to begin on Nov. 10, hosted at a new location in
Medford, Oregon.
