Under Armour Team of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 4-ranked University of Providence’s women’s wrestling team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for January 6 – 12, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

This week, Providence made program history, finishing third at the National Dual Meet Championships.

On Friday, the Argos defeated #13 Texas Wesleyan 34-15 and #5 William Penn 36-11 to advance to the semifinals. The Argos opened strong, capitalizing on two forfeits from Texas Wesleyan. #4 Paige Morales pinned Kaitlyn Rodriguez in 27 seconds, followed by #7 Alyssa Randles’ tech fall over Carolina Rios. #1 Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp pinned #2 Samantha Barragan in 26 seconds, and #9 Esther Han pinned Pella LaFever in 52 seconds to secure the win. In the quarterfinals against #5 William Penn, UP won the first three matches with #1 Erin Hikiji, #4 Paige Morales (who pinned her second opponent in under 30 seconds), and #20 Alicia Frank (who also pinned in 27 seconds). After two losses, the Argos won five straight, starting with Estrella-Beauchamp's 12-1 victory over #4 Kendall Bostelman. #9 Aspen Dodge added a 12-2 tech fall over #14 Nadia Abdijanovic. Hailey Sutton and Frances Porteous then pinned ranked opponents—Sutton in 5:37 and Porteous in 3:53. The dual ended with freshman Jasmine Adiniwin’s first career win, an 18-16 victory over Phoebe Burt.

The next day, Providence defeated #9 Southern Oregon to secure third place. The Argos fell to #1 Life in the semifinals, though #9 Paige Respicio shined with a 10-0 win over #2 Sarah Savidge. #1 Erin Hikiji also triumphed 10-0 over Brianna Funakoshi. In the third-place match against #9 Southern Oregon, the Argos dominated with tech falls from Hikiji (10-0) and #4 Paige Morales (12-1). After a loss at 117, #7 Alyssa Randles won by tech fall, defeating NAIA Runner-Up Jasmine Howard 14-3. #1 Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp pinned her opponent in 1:27, and #9 Aspen Dodge sealed the win with a 5-2 decision over Holland Weiber.

Next weekend, Providence will compete in a tri-dual with Vanguard, Simpson, and Southern Oregon.
