Geoducks Compete at Simon Fraser Open in Women's Wrestling

BURNABY, B.C. -- The Evergreen State College women's wrestling team competed at the Simon Fraser University Open on Saturday, Nov. 1. It was the season-opening event for the Geoducks.

Two Evergreen wrestlers took fourth place in their respective weight classes with 2-2 records. They were Nizhoni Tallman (Sr.) in the 50-kilogram weight class and Haley Le (So.) in the 65-kilogram weight class.

Tallman's first victory of the tournament was a technical fall against teammate Karen Salas (So.) by a 16-5 score. Tallman defeated Gina Blognese of Simon Fraser by a narrow 7-5 margin.

Le picked up her first victory with a 10-0 technical fall versus Eveangelina Maxwell-Nikiforuk from Dino Wrestling Club. The second win for Le also was a 10-0 technical fall against a wrestler from the Dino Wrestling Club, this time against Elizabeth Latulippe.

Ellabelle Taylor (Jr.) placed sixth in the 57-kilogram weight class with a 2-3 overall record. Taylor grabbed a 10-2 win versus Rowan Kolar from the WWU Club and a 6-0 victory over Jennifer Bungi from Pronghorn AWA.

Also for Evergreen, Erica Grant (Jr.) was 1-2 at 62 kilograms. Her win was earned by a 6-0 score against Aya Habbouchi from Coast Wrestling.

The Geoducks will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Mike Clock Open in Forest Grove, Oregon. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. PST at the Stoller Center.
