Taylor and Le Win Weight Classes at Mike Clock Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Women's wrestlers Ellabelle Taylor (Jr.) and Haley Le (So.) from The Evergreen State College took first place in their weight classes at the Mike Clock Open on Saturday, Nov. 8. Taylor won the 124-pound weight class and Le was victorious in the 138-pound weight class. The tournament was hosted by Pacific University at the Stoller Center.

In addition, Leah Wallway (Fr.) of Evergreen placed fourth in the 110-pound weight class. Zeta Lee (So.) earned fifth place for the Geoducks in the 117-pound weight class.

Taylor opened the tournament by pinning unattached wrestler Finley Houck less than a minute into the match at 0:57. Taylor added another fall in the quarterfinals as she defeated Diana Brunell from Southwestern Oregon Community College in just eight seconds.

In the semifinals, Taylor registered a 10-0 technical fall against Laura Alcantor Soto of Simon Fraser University (B.C., Canada). Taylor won the championship match at 124 pounds with a 12-0 technical fall versus Clarissa Cabrera from Simpson University (Calif.).

Le received a bye in the first round at 138 pounds. She earned a win in the quarterfinals with a 10-0 technical fall against Sitlaly Macias of Eastern Oregon University. Le was victorious in the semifinals against unattached competitor Renae Cook with a fall at 1:02. Le completed her run to the championship by pinning Anaka Chartrand of Simon Fraser at 2:18 into the title match.

Wallway began the day with a bye in the first round of the 110-pound weight class. She advanced into the semifinals with a fall versus unattached wrestler Maria Pillejera at the 0:49 mark in the quarterfinals. Gina Bolognese of Simon Fraser downed Wallway in the semifinals with a fall at 2:16.

In the consolation semifinals, Wallway earned a technical fall by a 10-0 score against Hailey Brown of Big Bend Community College. Nia Avelino from Eastern Oregon downed Wallway with a fall 1:09 into the third place match.

Lee received a bye to start the 117-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals, Brooklyn Prasad of Simon Fraser edged out Lee 8-5. Lee won in the second round of consolation play with a 10-0 technical fall against Emma Desotell (So.), also from Evergreen. In the consolation third round, Lee registered a fall in her match with Jacqueline Placencia of Simpson at the 3:48 mark. Ivy Threatful from Simon Fraser gained a technical fall against Lee by a 12-2 margin in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth place match, Lee pinned Alyson Ortiz from Umpqua Community College in just under a minute at 0:56.

Evergreen will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 29 with a pair of dual matches at the Costantino Recreation Center in Olympia, Washington. The first match will be against Linfield University (Ore.) at 5 p.m. PST. The Geoducks will take on Big Bend CC at 6:30 p.m. PST.
