Eastern Oregon Falls Short Against Park-Gilbert in Season Opener

TEMPE, Ariz. – Eastern Oregon baseball battled back late but fell just short in an 8-7 loss to Park-Gilbert on Thursday night at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The Mountaineers trailed 8-2 heading into the eighth inning but mounted a late rally, scoring four runs in the eighth and adding another in the ninth to push the Buccaneers (3-3) to the brink. Despite the late surge, Park-Gilbert's bullpen held firm to secure the victory.

EOU recorded 10 hits on the night, with Mason Van Arsdall leading the way, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Greyson McDaniel added a 2-for-3 performance, scoring a run and driving in one. Danny Burns contributed a triple and an RBI, while Mario Landeros brought home two runs.

On the mound, Will Seslar took the loss for the Mounties, surrendering three runs on three hits over two innings while striking out three. From the bullpen, Ryan Etzkorn provided three shutout frames.

Park-Gilbert jumped out to an early lead, plating two runs in the first and adding four in the fourth to take control. Caleb Rozier sparked the Buccaneers' offense, scoring twice while collecting a triple. The Buccaneers capitalized on free passes, drawing 10 walks while collecting seven hits.

Eastern Oregon looks to bounce back in the series with a double header tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. back in Tempe Diablo Stadium.
