CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University of British Columbia baseball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for April 21 – April 27, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
British Columbia (34-15, 29-8 CCC) split with Lewis-Clark State College to secure its first outright CCC regular season championship title. UBC previously captured the top spot in 2009 and 2010 during the conference’s divisional format and shared the title with OIT in 2023.
Russell Young delivered an impressive performance in Friday's doubleheader, racking up three hits, driving in four runs, and scoring three times over the two games. He capped off the day with a clutch home run late in the second game to take the tight 9-8 victory while Will Anderson earned the win on the mound.
The LC State win on Saturday led to a winner take all final game.
On Sunday, British Columbia came out strong and dominated with a 9-2 win to clinch the conference title. Daniel Orfaly pitched eight innings in a quality start, giving up eight hits and two runs against the nationally-ranked Warriors. The White Rock native earned his fourth win of the season. Trent Lenihan led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
The Thunderbirds claimed the top seed, earning the right to host the postseason tournament on May 2-5 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
