CALDWELL, Idaho — A three-hit, three-RBI performance from James Hull powered The College of Idaho to a 5-3 victory over Pacific University (Ore.) on Friday afternoon at Wolfe Field, giving the Yotes a win in their home opener and pushing their undefeated start to 5-0.
Hull drove in runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings, finishing 3-for-5 while accounting for three of the Yotes' four RBI. The senior shortstop doubled home Maddox Weight in the second to get the Yotes on the board, then delivered the go-ahead run in the fourth and capped his day with a two-RBI single in the sixth that extended the lead to 5-2.
The Yotes collected 10 hits, with Caden Casagrande adding two and Cody Guy posting a hit and an RBI. Connor Olsen and Jack Ryan each scored in the sixth after reaching on back-to-back singles.
Jackson Cummins earned the win, improving to 2-0 after throwing five innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits. He struck out one and walked one. Jakob Cummins closed the final four innings, giving up one run while striking out two to record the save.
Pacific jumped ahead 2-0 in the first two innings before the Yotes answered with single runs in the second and a two-run fourth. The Boxers added one in the seventh, but the Yotes held them scoreless over the final two frames despite late baserunners.
The win marks the first home contest of the season for The College of Idaho, which continues its four-game weekend series against Pacific with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The teams will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
