BRASILIA, Brazil -- Izabelle Trefts (Sr.) from The Evergreen State College women's track and field team and Evergreen Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Katie Burnett competed for the United States at the 2026 Caixa World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships held on Sunday, April 12 in Brasilia, Brazil.
Burnett placed 22nd in the women's marathon race walk to help the U.S. finish fifth in the team standings. Trefts took 54th place in the women's half marathon race walk as the U.S. placed 10th in the team standings.
In the marathon event, Burnett set a personal best with a time of 3:55:14 (3 hours, 55 minutes, 14 seconds). She was the second finisher for the U.S. Maria Michta-Coffey placed 16th overall in 3:52:38. Lydia McGranahan took 24th place in 3:57:49 to complete the U.S. team score.
Ecuador won the women's team title in the marathon with a score of 12, edging out Italy, which took second place with a score of 13. Brazil was third at 28, with China in fourth at 41, and the U.S. in fifth at 62.
The individual title in the women's marathon was earned by Paula Milena Torres of Ecuador. She won the race walk in 3:24:37 (3 hours, 24 minutes, 37 seconds). Sofia Fiorini of Italy was second at 3:25:42 and Nathaly Leon from Ecuador was third in 3:31:47.

Trefts achieved a time of 1:54:42 (1 hour, 54 minutes, 42 seconds) in the half marathon. She was the U.S. team's second finisher. Lauren Harris placed 13th overall for the U.S. with a national record time of 1:39:28. Miranda Melville took 60th place for the U.S. at 1:58:39 and Angelica Harris of the U.S. was 62nd in 2:01:03.
Ukraine claimed the women's team title in the half marathon with a score of 25. Spain placed second at 28, while Australia was third at 30. The U.S. was 10th at 127.
In the individual standings for the women's half marathon, the winner was Kimberly Garcia Leon of Peru, who earned a time of 1:35:00 (1 hour, 35 minutes, 0 seconds). Alejandra Ortega from Mexico placed second in 1:35:21 and Aldara Meilan of Spain was third at 1:35:38.
