ASHLAND – Battles of NAIA All-Americans in the women’s heptathlon and of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) Warriors in the men’s decathlon began to unfold during Day 1 of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships presented by U.S. Bank on Thursday at Raider Stadium.

Through four of seven disciplines in the heptathlon, British Columbia junior Rebecca Dutchak is 80 points up on Southern Oregon sophomore Abi Stevens in first place. And through five of 10 disciplines in the decathlon, LCSC junior Justin Krabbenhoft has a 172-point lead over second-place teammate Christian Bothwell.

Dutchak, who placed fifth at last year’s NAIA Outdoor Championships and entered the week at No. 2 on this season’s national performance list, accumulated 2,856 points. She was the top scorer among the 12-person field in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.79 seconds) and the shot put (11.86 meters), and was the second finisher in the 200 (26.59).

Stevens – the only returning All-CCC performer in the heptathlon and the NAIA’s seventh-place finisher in 2022 – scored 2,776 points with first-place finishes in the high jump (1.62 meters) and the 200 (26.57). She was also second to Dutchak in the 100 hurdles (15.42).

Third-place Lizzy Grandle of Eastern Oregon (2,711 points) and fourth-place Corona Parker of Evergreen State (Wash.) (2,707) are both within 150 points of the top spot. With Sammy Conley (2,519) in sixth place, EOU is currently positioned to amass nine points toward its CCC Championships score.

LCSC dominated the first half of the decathlon with three athletes among the top-five in the seven-person field. Krabbenhoft, who owns the No. 11 score in the NAIA this season, totaled 3,513 points with the meet’s top marks in the 100 (11.22), the 400 (52.39) and the long jump (6.75 meters).

Bothwell, an All-CCC finisher in third place last year, stands in second with 3,341 points – looking to improve upon the score he established a month ago of 6,322 points that leads the conference and ranks seventh in the NAIA. The third Warrior in the mix, Caleb Moore, is in fifth place with 3,031 points.

Eastern Oregon’s Israel Miles is in All-CCC position with 3,230 points in third place. Oregon Tech’s Eli Stevens is in fourth with 3,164.

Friday’s remaining heptathlon disciplines – the long jump, javelin and 800 – begin at 10:15 a.m. The decathlon continues at 10 a.m. and will feature the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500.
