Corban Women’s Golf Battles Desert Sun, Nationally Ranked Field in Firestorm Fall Classic Opener

BUCKEYE, Ariz. – With one of the most competitive fields the Corban University Women's Golf team has seen at a single tournament, the Warriors struggled to stay consistent throughout the day and found themselves in 12th place as a team following the opening day of the Firestorm Fall Classic, hosted at the Verrado Golf Club in central Arizona.

"Rough day in the desert for the gals, yet they still scored for a team around what they've been shooting this fall so far," explained Corban head coach Charlie Marshall. "They played their normal game, but the desert penalized them just as it did for the men as well."

No. 14-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) holds a one-stroke lead over No. 25-ranked and fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference member Oregon Tech (298), with the tourney host Firestorm of RV Arizona Christian University (305) leading the University of British Columbia Okanagan (307) and RV Ottawa University-Arizona (311) for third place among the top five teams thus far. UBC Okanagan's Julia Alexander Carew (71) holds a slim lead atop the individual leaderboards through one round of action, with ERAU's Lila Becker and Tech's Sydney Dick both just one stroke behind the leader.

The Corban women's team (358) accumulated seven pars across their five-woman team today, but not enough red numbers on their scorecards to keep up with the most diverse field they've seen to date in 2025 that includes nine teams receiving votes in the NAIA National Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Sophomore Madelyn Moore (86) is in 46th to lead the Warrior women, followed by sophomore Yaone Mokgatle (88) in 48th, freshman Jaycie Moubray (90) in 52nd, sophomore Ashlyn Thomas (94) in 56th, and sophomore Kaylee Umbright (104) in 58th.

Tomorrow morning, the ladies will tee off for round two of the Firestorm Fall Classic in a rare three-round tourney for the women that extends into Wednesday.
