CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University Men’s Basketball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for January 12 – 18, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
Southern Oregon posted a pair of wins highlighted by a dramatic 68-67 upset of No. 20-ranked Oregon Tech and a comeback road victory at Warner Pacific University.
The Raiders knocked off the nationally ranked Owls Tuesday night in Ashland, Ore., as Gio Evanson drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining. SOU closed the game on a 9-2 run after trailing by six with two minutes left, snapping a six-game losing streak in the series.
Evanson scored all 10 of his points over the final nine minutes, while Bryce Dyer led the Raiders with 13 points. Brady Rice added 10 points and six rebounds, and the SOU defense limited OIT to one second-half three-pointer.
Southern Oregon carried the momentum into Thursday’s road contest, rallying for a 67-61 win at Warner Pacific. The Raiders closed the game on a 17-4 run, with Elijah Jackson scoring nine of his 19 points in the final four minutes. Evanson finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Rice chipped in 10 points as SOU reached the midway point of conference play at 8-2 to tie atop the CCC standings.
Southern Oregon improved to 11-7 overall and will travel to face The Evergreen State College and Northwest University for their next Cascade Conference matchups next week.
