WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from April 11-17, 2022.
 
Softball – Pitcher
No. 6-ranked College of Idaho’s Katelyn Wilfert was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.
 
Wilfert, a senior right-handed pitcher from Meridian, Idaho, had a dominant performance the Coyotes. She had two complete games, holding UBC to just two runs when she was in the circle. Wilfert finished with nine strikeouts and just one earned run in 14 innings pitched.
 
Softball – Player
Bushnell University’s Anabel Mendez was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
 
Mendez, a senior outfielder from Santa Ana, Calif., had an impressive weekend, batting .727 with three multiple-hit games for the Beacons. She went 5-for-5 in Saturday's double-header and her two doubles in game-four tied her for the Bushnell season record in that category, which has stood for 18 years. Her efforts led the Beacons to their first four-game winning streak in eight years and have put them in a position to fight for their first-ever CCC postseason appearance over the final two weeks. Mendez finished the weekend with a 1.364 slugging percentage, seven RBIs, eight hits and eight runs.
 
Baseball – Pitcher
No. 4-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Dawson Day was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Day, a senior left-handed pitcher from Gresham, Ore., was lights out against the College of Idaho on Saturday. He allowed just two hits in his seven shut-out innings and struck out 13. He did not allow a run in his sixth win of the season.
 
Baseball – Player
Corban University’s Kyle Clay was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this year.
 
Clay, a sophomore outfielder from Spokane, Wash., hit three two-run triples over the course of the series against Oregon Tech. He played flawless defense and finished the weekend averaging .444 at the plate with eight RBIs, four runs scored and an .833 slugging percentage.
 
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
UBC’s Holly MacGillivray was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
MacGillivray, a freshman from Waterloo, Ont., Canada, had a strong showing at the Bryan Clay Invite in SoCal over the weekend. She posted two NAIA automatic qualifying times in the 1500-meter and 800-meter events. Her 1500m time of 4:23.74 moves her to No. 1 in the NAIA by 5.5 seconds and shaved eight seconds off her previous best time. She also managed a lifetime best in the 800m at 2:12.60, which ranks fourth in NAIA.
 
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
UBC’s Hailey Kjaer was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Kjaer, a sophomore from Lantzville, B.C., Canada, won the javelin competition at the Bryan Clay Invite with a mark of 45.94 meters. It improves her already top throw in the NAIA and gave her a new personal best throw to beat out 38 other athletes.
 
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
UBC’s Dylan Uhrich was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Uhrich, a freshman from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, grabbed a personal-best time of 8:57.17 in the 3K steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays. The time – which is good for an NAIA “A” mark – moved Uhrich into the top spot in the NAIA in the event.
 
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
UBC’s Rowan Hamilton was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.
 
Hamilton, a sophomore from Chilliwack, B.C., Canada, set a new personal record in the hammer throw at the Mt. SAC Relays, taking first out of 49 athletes. It also marks the top collegiate throw across all divisions of NCAA, JUCO, and NAIA by 2 meters. Hamilton also owns the No. 1-ranked NAIA throw by 11 meters.
 
Women’s Golf – Golfer
No. 3-ranked UBC’s Elizabeth Labbe was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
 
Labbe, a freshman from Quebec City, Que., Canada, led the Thunderbirds to their ninth-straight tournament victory with a first-place finish at the Corban Spring Invite. She finished the course two-over (74) to take first out of 40 golfers.
 
Men’s Golf – Golfer
No. 12-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Jorgen Lie Viken was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week for the second time this year.
 
Lie Viken, a junior from Kongsberg, Norway, earned his first win as a Warrior at the Corban Spring Invitational after shooting rounds of 74 and 70. He helped the Warriors to their fourth team title of the season, besting No. 6 UBC and Oregon Tech by 15 strokes. He matched par to finish two strokes ahead of his teammate in second place and had 10 birdies on the day to lead the field.
