Rize Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following four CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 2-8, 2023.

Men’s Basketball –Player
Multnomah University’s Tyrese Taylor was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Taylor, a junior post from Copperas Cove, Texas, led the Lions (4-5) to their first 2-0 conference weekend of the year. Taylor asserted himself in the lane, leading his team with an average of 19.5 points and 10 rebounds a game while shooting 57% from the field. Taylor's play helped the Lions fight right back into the heat of the conference.

Women’s Basketball –Player
Oregon Tech’s Olivia Sprague was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Sprague, a sophomore guard from Clatskanie, Ore., led her team this week with double-figure scoring games. This week she racked up 38 points, eight assists, eight rebounds, and five steals. With the help of the amazing performance by Sprague, the Lady Owls are now cruising on a six-game win streak with a 7-2 conference record.

Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 11-ranked Menlo College’s Jovan Garcia was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.

Garcia, a junior 116-pound wrestler from Tolleson, Ariz., is currently ranked 17th in the NAIA in his weight class. He defeated his 2nd ranked opponent via a 5-3 decision at the Menlo Invitational. Gracia went 3-0 this weekend and led the Oaks to a 2nd place finish.

Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Joye Levendusky was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.

Levendusky, a senior heavyweight from Avon, N.Y., dominated at the NWCA National Dual Meet to win her weight class championship and led her undefeated team to an NAIA title. Levendusky finished the tournament with a 4-0 record, winning by technical fall in every match.
