CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following eleven CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Oct. 9 – 15, 2023.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
(RV) Bushnell University’s Jackson Muramoto was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Muramoto (69-71 – 140), a senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, had another record-breaking tournament last week at the TMU Danish Classic. He ended 4-under par and two strokes ahead after two rounds against 46 other Golfers to earn medalist honors and lead the Beacons to a fourth-place team finish.
Women’s Golf – Golfer
(RV) Oregon Tech’s Maiya Baker was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Baker (76-72 – 148), a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., competed in the TMU Danish Classic last week. She carded five birdies on the second day while finishing six strokes ahead of the next competitor. Baker reached a career-best (even-par 72) to earn medalist honors and help Oregon Tech take the team title.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 24 Corban University’s Robert Swoboda was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time this season.
Swoboda, a graduate student from Ukiah, Calif., took first overall at the LC State invite on Saturday among 156 total runners from top NAIA and NCAA D1 programs. He completed the 8K with a time of 23:54.0, breaking Corban’s school record by 24 seconds and leading the Warriors to a sixth-place team finish.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
The Evergreen State College’s Alauna Carstens was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Carstens, a sophomore from Shelton, Wash., was the first NAIA finisher and third overall at the George Oja Invitational on Saturday. She covered the 6K course in 21:07.8, crushing Evergreen’s school record by 47 seconds. There were 187 total runners across NCAA and NAIA collegiate athletics.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
(RV) College of Idaho’s Tom Baynard-Smith was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Baynard-Smith, a junior goalkeeper from Melbourne, Australia, didn’t allow a goal in the Yotes weekend match. On Friday against Eastern Oregon University (3-0), he kept the Mounties off the board with two saves for his fifth clean sheet of conference play. C of I is currently ranked second in the conference standings.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Northwest University’s Tyler Hopp was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Hopp, a graduate student forward from Kent, Wash., ended the weekend with five goals and a .778 sog%, leading Northwest to two conference wins on the road. In the first victory on Friday, he led the Eagles with both goals against Rocky Mountain College (2-1). On Sunday he came out blazing, collecting a hat trick in the shutout over Walla Walla University (6-0).
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Bushnell University’s Lexi Bates was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Bates, a junior goalkeeper from Murray, Utah, recorded two clean sheets and five saves this weekend. On Friday, the Beacons ended in a scoreless draw against Multnomah University. The next day, they defeated Warner Pacific University (2-0).
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Corban University’s Alysia Alvarado was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Alvarado, a junior midfielder from Salem, Ore., was responsible for the game-winning goals in Corban’s undefeated weekend. She collected two points and an assist on Friday over Warner Pacific University (3-1). On Saturday, she made one shot against Multnomah University (2-1). Alvarado recorded a .667 sog% while leading the Warriors to clinch a postseason berth and are currently tied for second in the conference standings.
Volleyball – Attacker
No. 16 Southern Oregon University’s Hannah Stadstad was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Stadstad, a junior right-side hitter from Albany, Ore., led the Raiders to a three-win weekend. She recorded an impressive .563 attack percentage across the matches on top of 47 total kills (4.7 k/s). She also landed four blocks and five digs in the Raider's victories over Oregon Tech (3-1), Warner Pacific University (3-0), and Multnomah University (3-0). She now leads the CCC with a .363 overall attack percentage.
Volleyball – Defender
Multnomah University’s Lauren Porter was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Porter, a junior Libero from Las Vegas, Nev., recorded an incredible 61 total digs (6.78 d/s) in Multnomah’s three matches. She also contributed 11 assists and a service ace, helping the Lions end 1-2 last week. She now leads the CCC with an average of 5.66 digs per set.
Volleyball – Setter
No. 16 Southern Oregon University’s Vitoria Mattos was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week.
Mattos, a junior setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, led Southern Oregon with 71 assists last week, averaging 7.1 per set. She also contributed 12 digs and three kills with a .333 attack percentage in the Raiders' victories against Oregon Tech (3-1), Warner Pacific University (3-0), and Multnomah University (3-0).
