CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following nine CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Oct. 2 – 8, 2023.
Men's Golf – Golfer
No. 20 Lewis-Clark State College's Bryden Brown was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Golfer of the Week.
Brown (70-71-74 – 215), a sophomore from Moscow, Idaho, had one of the best tournaments of his career last week at the Beartooth Invitational. He carded 11 consecutive pars to end 1-under after the three rounds. He finished third overall against 60 other golfers to help the Warrior men place second as a team.
Women's Golf – Golfer
No. 25 Lewis-Clark State College's Kyla Currie was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Golfer of the Week.
Currie (78-79-79 – 236), a senior from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, finished tied for second place at the Beartooth Invitational last week. She led the Warrior women to achieve third place as a team with a 20-over individual finish against 50 other golfers.
Men's Soccer – Defensive Player
Corban University's Isaac Pureco was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Pureco, a sophomore goalkeeper from Woodburn, Ore., didn't allow a single goal while leading the Warriors to two upsets this past weekend. On Friday, he recorded five saves in 77 minutes played against Northwest University (4-2). The next day, he collected all three saves to hold The Evergreen State College in a scoreless draw for his first shutout of the season.
Men's Soccer – Offensive Player
Oregon Tech's Andrew Pasang was named the Rize Laboratory Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Pasang, a junior midfielder from Auckland, New Zealand, had an outstanding weekend to lead the Owls to two more wins. In the first victory on Friday, he made the first goal while assisting with the final two in OIT's come-from-behind win over Rocky Mountain College (3-2). On Sunday, he came out blazing to secure the first hat trick of his career while collecting one assist in Oregon Tech's victory against Walla Walla University (5-1).
Women's Soccer – Defensive Player
No. 16 College of Idaho's Hannah McFadden was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
McFadden, a senior goalkeeper from Meridian, Idaho, ended the weekend with one save in two shutouts to keep the Yotes undefeated in conference play. They bested University of Providence (7-0) and (RV) Carroll College (3-0), holding the Saints scoreless for the first time this season. C of I currently has 10 consecutive wins while not allowing a goal in six straight games.
Women's Soccer – Offensive Player
Corban University's Kaleigh Haworth was named the Rize Laboratory Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Haworth, a senior midfielder from Anchorage, Alaska, was responsible for a pair of go-ahead goals in the Warriors' undefeated weekend. She successfully executed a penalty kick opportunity to break a scoreless tie over Northwest University (2-1) on Friday. On Saturday, she got a header in the 46th minute against The Evergreen State College (3-2).
Volleyball – Attacker
Bushnell University's Halle Neumann was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Neumann, a senior right side hitter from Colfax, Calif., led the Beacons to two more wins over the weekend, averaging 3.67 kills per set. She recorded a .487 attack percentage across the matches on top of 22 total kills. She also landed three blocks in Bushnell's three-set sweeps over Warner Pacific University and Multnomah University.
Volleyball – Defender
No. 4 Eastern Oregon University's Mylie Mills was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Defender of the Week for the second time this season.
Mills, a freshman middle hitter from Nampa, Idaho, recorded 15 blocks on the weekend, averaging 2.14 per set. She also contributed 10 kills and a .333 attack percentage that helped the Mounties defeat No. 16 Southern Oregon University and Oregon Tech.
Volleyball – Setter
No. 4 Eastern Oregon University's Alexis McMurtrey was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third consecutive week and the fourth time this season.
McMurtrey, a junior setter from Idaho Falls, Idaho, led Eastern Oregon with 40 assists this weekend, averaging 5.71 per set. She also contributed 22 digs (3.14 per set) in the Mounties' victories against No. 16 Southern Oregon University and Oregon Tech.
