CORVALLIS, Ore. – The following twelve CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from March 25 – 31, 2024.
Beach Volleyball – Pair
No. 2-ranked Corban University’s Nicole Bantilan and Emmi Marks were named the Rize Laboratory Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week.
The junior and sophomore duo had a 3-0 weekend to stay perfect in conference play. The third pair defeated (RV) College of Idaho (16-21, 21-8, 15-8), Northwest University (21-4, 21-13), and (RV) Southern Oregon University (21-11, 21-9). They did not allow more than 13 points in a set on Saturday, holding their opponents to as few as four points for a set and 17 the entire match.
Baseball – Player
(RV) Oregon Tech’s Tyler Horner was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Horner, a junior catcher from Twin Falls, Idaho, had another fantastic outing for the Owls, helping lead OIT to a series split against No. 8-ranked Lewis-Clark State College. He recorded 11 hits in 15 at bats, including four doubles and a homerun for a .733 batting average and a 1.200 slugging percentage. Across the weekend he tallied six runs, five RBIs, and drew three walks. Defensively he managed a .923 fielding percentage.
Baseball – Pitcher
No. 8-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Cameron Smith was named the Rize Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Smith, a senior from Arlington, Wash., had an outstanding performance on the mound against (RV) Oregon Tech, leading the Warriors to a 10-6 victory. In four innings he did not allow a run and only let up two hits while striking out five batters for a perfect ERA.
Softball – Player
(RV) University of British Columbia’s Shae Sever was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Sever, a junior pitcher from Richmond, B.C., was dominate all around for the Thunderbirds, leading to a series split against Carroll College. At the plate, she recorded 9 hits in 15 at bats for a .600 batting average and a .800 slugging percentage. She added six RBIs and three runs while drawing two walks. On the mound, she struck out 10 batters in nine innings.
Softball – Pitcher
No. 15-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kaylie Hoskins was named the Rize Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Hoskins, a junior from Lake Stevens, Wash., continued her stellar season in the circle, leading EOU to a series sweep over University of Providence. She did not allow a run in 12 total innings and only let up two hits in her first appearance, leading to a perfect game in her second outing. She struck out 27 batters for a perfect ERA.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
Southern Oregon University’s Matt Forsyth was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Forsyth (70-70 – 140), a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., finished 2nd out of 64 golfers this weekend at the Simpson Invite. He carded the lowest two-round score in program history, leading the Raiders to a team title.
Women’s Golf – Golfer
Southern Oregon University’s Keira Cheng was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Keira Cheng (75-77 – 152), a freshmen from Los Alamitos, Calif., finished in 4th out of 29 golfers this weekend at the Simpson Invite to be the top CCC finisher.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
University of British Columbia’s James Kerr was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Kerr, a freshmen runner from Burlington, Ont., made a time of 54.47 in the 400m hurdles at the Stanford Invitational. This qualified as a B standard and currently ranks at the top of the CCC this season.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Bushnell University’s Jermaine Schexnayder was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Schexnayder, a freshmen jumper from Fresno, Calif., recorded a distance of 14.57m in the triple jump at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic to set a new program record. This earned him a 1st place finish and an A standard which is currently ranked 8th in the NAIA. He also made a 1.94m mark in the high jump for another 1st place victory.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Alejandra Lopez was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Lopez, a senior runner from Mt. Angel, Ore., placed 4th at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. She recorded a time of 36:53.25 in the 10,000m for an A standard which is currently ranked 6th in the NAIA this season.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
University of British Columbia’s Sarah Snell was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Snell, a freshmen thrower from Ogen, Utah, earned a distance of 40.80m in the javelin at the Stanford Invitational. She reached an A standard which is currently ranked 4th in the NAIA this season.
