GREENWOOD, Ind. – John Lustig continued to make LC State history on Tuesday when he became the second Warrior Men's Basketball student-athlete to earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honors. Lustig, who became the program's all-time leading scorer this season, earned second-team honors after a standout senior season.
Lustig is one of 10 NAIA men's basketball student-athletes to be tabbed a CSC Academic All-American this season. He will graduate this spring with a degree in business communications and maintains a 3.61 grade point average.
"So excited for John to be recognized with this CSC Academic All-American award," coach Austin Johnson said. "Very few people have accomplished and achieved the combination of success that he has on the court and in the classroom. He has held himself to the highest standards during his time as a Warrior. The wins, records and accolades are a testament to the mindset and discipline that he approached his career with. As storied as this LC State Basketball program is, it's been so rewarding to have a front-row seat to witness John leave his mark as one of the best to ever do it; not just what he's done, but how he's done it. A true Warrior."
The award recognizes student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in the field of play. To be eligible, student-athletes must start in 66% of games or appear in 90%, must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and be at least a sophomore in standing. Members from the CSC Academic All-District ballot can advance to the All-America ballot which is voted on by CSC members.
"I am very thankful for this honor and recognition," Lustig said. "Thank you to my coaches and professors who have helped me succeed both on the court and in the classroom. The entire community at LC State supports student-athletes in a special way, and I am grateful for all of the experiences I have had as a Warrior."
Lustig scored 1463 points in his career to sit atop the record book after his four years. The senior led the Cascade Conference in field goal percentage this season at 58.5% and was fifth in rebounding with 7.3 per game. Lustig led the Warriors in scoring with 15.8 per game and added 70 assists, 18 blocks and 14 steals to his final season.
Along with his record for most points all-time, Lustig leaves LC State ranked third in field goals made (561), fifth in rebounds (614) and sixth in free throws made (272). He was voted All-Cascade Conference and was named the CCC Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week once each this season. Lustig capped his career with All-Cascade Conference and NABC All-West Region honors.
