WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following four CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period Dec. 6-12, 2021.
 
Women’s Basketball – Player
Northwest University’s Sam VanLoo was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
 
VanLoo, a senior post from Lynden, Wash., helped NU grab two wins on the week, averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She finished the week shooting 70.6-percent from the floor, including an 87.5-percent performance in the Eagles’ 62-51 victory over Pacific Lutheran. VanLoo also had five assists, six blocks and a steal on the week.
 
Men’s Basketball – Player
Walla Walla University’s Zayne Browning was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
 
Browning, a senior guard from Bozeman, Mont., helped the Wolves grab their first win against Whitman College since the 2004-05 season. He went 7-for-8 in first half for 15 points, finishing with a season-high 21 points. On 66.7-percent shooting. Browning also dished out three assists, grabbed three rebounds and had a steal and a block.
 
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Bailey Dennis was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Dennis, the No. 14-ranked 170-pound freshman wrestler from Madras, Ore., scored an upset of seventh-ranked Alexys Zepeda with a first-round pin Sunday in her only match of the week. She secured the pin in one minute, 40 seconds.
 
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
Southern Oregon University’s Noah Talavera was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Talavera, a sophomore 174-pound wrestler from Vancouver, Wash., won both of his matches as SOU took a CCC dual against Corban and an exhibition against North Idaho CC on Sunday in Salem. He needed only 30 seconds to pin Navarro Nanpuya, the No. 6-ranked 174-pounder in the NJCAA, and grabbed a 12-5 decision victory against the Warriors.
