BUTTE, Mont. – A 27-point second-half swing gave the Southern Oregon men's basketball team its first win of the season, 74-56 over Montana Western in the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic on Friday at Kelvin Sampson Court.
Redshirt-freshman forward Bryce Dyer and senior forward Dominic McGarvey scored 10 points apiece in the second half, where the Raiders (1-2) trailed 43-34 before turning the tables with 14 minutes left. The Bulldogs (2-1) shot 0-of-6 with five turnovers over their next 11 trips down the floor, enabling SOU to take the lead for good with a 14-0 run.
The Raiders went 15-of-24 in the half, sparked off the bench by two 3-pointers from Dyer and Ethan Blythe's 3-of-3 showing.
Dyer finished with 14 points and six rebounds, Cole McAninch went for 14 and five, and McGarvey had 12 and seven.
The Raiders committed just nine turnovers and posted an 18-3 advantage at the free-throw line, where Teron Bradford and Khalil Chatman made five apiece. Chatman finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while Bradford had eight points and four assists.
Only three different Bulldogs scored in the second half. Abi Abdedo was one of them, ending up with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The point total was their lowest since the 2020-21 postseason.
SOU gets its first shot at a ranked opponent Saturday, facing No. 6 Montana Tech at 6 p.m. PST.
