HELENA, Mont. – Unable to complete a full forty minutes of solid collegiate basketball on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court was the Corban University Men’s Basketball team, as the Warriors grew cold from the field to both start and end their contest against the Carroll College Saints in 75-57 loss earlier tonight.
“Tonight was a tough result. We struggled to execute offensively and create any type of rhythm for ourselves in the second half,” Warriors’ head coach Taylor Kelly shared earlier this evening. “Give credit to Carroll on making things tough on us and keeping us on our toes. We will regroup and get better. Love the men in our group and looking forward to seeing how good we can become this season.”
The Fighting Saints (2-2) stormed out to a double-digit lead on their home court tonight within a matter of minutes, as the Warriors (2-2) were ice cold from the field and didn’t get their first points of the game until the 17-minute when they had already given up nine points to Carroll.
However, this didn’t deter Coach Kelly and his program, as the Navy and Gold slowly fought back over the course of the first half to trail by a single point at the halftime break after trailing by as many as 16 points thanks to gritty defense and converting on the opportunities that the Saints presented them with.
The gameplay remained tightly contested throughout the first ten minutes of the second half but a late scoring drought by the Warriors would end up being their downfall, as Carroll quickly rebuilt a double-digit lead that Corban was unable to recover from, with the score eventually concluding at 75-57.
The lone offensive spark plug for the Warriors tonight was junior guard Aundree Polk, who dropped a team-high 25 points and was the only player to end his evening in double digits. Polk added seven rebounds to his totals, while junior forward Jay Wilson brought down eight boards and a trio of blocks to lead the team.
Saints’ guard Andrew Cook was all over his home court tonight, dropping a game-high 29 points and ten rebounds for the only double-double of the evening, adding three assists and a pair of steals. Fellow guard Kendall Moore tallied 15 points with three more assists in Carroll’s second win of the season.
Corban men’s basketball will take the next weekend off before hosting their only exhibition matchup of the 2023-24 season, as they’ll welcome the Seattle Mountaineers Club team to the C.E. Jeffers Sports on Tuesday, November 21st at 7pm.
